RME0R2MK–Dec. 12, 1957 - Tragic rush-hour train crash in Lewisham - London more than forty dead: More than forty people are feared to have lost their lives by the crash of a steam train from Cannon Street to Deal - into the rear of the 5-18 electric train from Charing Cross to Hayes soon after 6 p.m. in dense fog just outside St. John's Station, Lewisham. Part of the wreckage crashed into the supports of a flyover bringing part of it down on to the crashed trains. Photo shows Fireman - police and rescue workers struggle to release victims in the light of flares in the dense fog this evening.
