Kokichi Tsuburaya, 27-year old Olympic marathon bronze winner in the 1964 Tokyo Olympic Games, committed suicide in the officers' dormitory of the Ground Self Defense Forces, Tokyo. He had been suffered from the hernia and Achilles tendon and the operation recovery of his right foot did not progress satisfactorily. He killed himself by cutting his carotid artery with a razor blade. He was closely followed by Abdesian Rhadi of Morocco (185). The two had been the only ones in the race with a chance of winning on the halfway mark 10th September 1960.
