Kent & East Sussex Railway, Tenterden, Kent, UK. 25th Apr, 2022. The future of the heritage steam sector in the UK is under threat due to the closure of the country’s coal mines, in particular the dry steam coal mined uniquely from a mine in Wales. Dry steam coal is a semi-smokeless fuel which burns cleaner than house coal & is used in steam railway engines, traction engines & steam-powered vessels. Imported coal creates higher levels of pollution & impacts the environment by its transport from Kazakhstan & Colombia. An event took place to highlight the issue.
