Subtle and cost-effective
Phasers are one of my fave effects, and they really do come in many flavors. After comparing with the MXR Script Phase 90 and the EHX Small Stone, I find that the Stax mini compares closest to the MXR Phase 90 (my long time favorite), and pays homage to the MXR with the distinct adobe orange color in the graphics. It is ever so slightly more subtle than the MXR, allowing slightly more of the guitar's dry signal into the mix than the MXR does. The Stax unit features a color switch that selects between "vintage" and "modern" tones. Normally I think this would maybe choose between an 8 stage phaser and a 12 stage phaser (or other combination), but to my ears the "vintage mode" simulated the Phase 90 while the "modern mode" added some gain to the signal, giving the phaser a little overdrive under it, much like the early Boss CH-1 Super Chorus does. The Stax Phaser is all metal construction; switches feel solid, and the rate potentiometer feels nice and smooth with the proper resistance. Internals are printed circuit; not surprising as phaser is a common circuit and easily reproducible. The compact size and inexpensive price make this an attractive phaser for the budget-conscious Weekend Warrior. The subtlety of the effect (mentioned in first paragraph) will have me replacing my MXR on my bass pedal board with this Stax unit, as the MXR can sometimes have slightly too much wash for my bass rig. As a pedal nerd, one thing I really appreciate is that designers of the Stax Phaser knew to pay homage to the proper color of the 70s phaser. I have had other mini phaser circuits in the past, and it was irritating to glance down and have trouble spotting the phaser because it was entirely the wrong color. In my mind, based on experience, phasers are ORANGE. They are THIS orange. They are not silver. Or grey. Or blue. They are ORANGE. And this unit knows this. Overall this is a good value for the budget-conscious player.

Never tried this brand before, but for such a low price I thought I’d take a chance. And it worked out - the pedal does exactly what it claims - it’s basically an MXR Phase 90/95 or whatever.

Does the “just right” warm analog phaser sound without noise or anything weird. Build quality feels solid. Graphics on pedal are kinda ? but who cares. Nothing fancy, but exactly what I was looking for.

GREAT little circuit. Analog, swooshy , deep sounding for such an inexpensive, budget pedal. I’m delighted with pretty much every aspect, it is low noise, zero issues such as popping noises or loud switches, no problems at all with hiss or hum, it’s just silent. There is no volume drop when activated. Just a very decent phaser that works as it should. Sounds nice for VH heavy tones too, turn the rate way down for that. The graphics and artwork are a little boring looking, I’d like to see them use cool icons like JHS pedals does, or better artwork, but we buy it to sound good, not look good. Very happy with my Stax phaser so far!

Received it today, extremely fast!
Great value!! Nice noticeable boost, even at low volumes.
This is the second Stax
pedal I’ve bought for the board I’m creating for my son.
I haven’t given it a real go around, but after a little playing today, I like it a lot!
This style pedal was surprisingly useful near the front of my pedal chain.
My best description is a nice boost on the cleaner side without getting muddy ,if that makes sense.
The thing I liked about this pedal is it works well for what it is!
The harmonics are still there without being overblown.
It definitely loses it effect when “dimed”. Still, I think this pedal is very useful, at 3/4 levels.
It's not a real Dumble amp but,it's a nice mini pedal that exceeded my expectations at that price point.
I will most likely purchase a few more of these, maybe making a economical copy of my personal board.....

This is a great pedal. I can't help wondering if this is a rebranded Donner stylish fuzz, which is apparently a Triangle Muff knockoff and is also a GREAT pedal. I own one, and the two are sonically identical - lots of low end, slightly scooped mids. It's especially good cascading into an overdrive pedal with low gain. Like all fuzz pedals, it's a bit noisy but not excessively so. Sounds best going into a clean amp like a Twin or an old Peavey 212, and it does equally well with humbuckers or single coils. A keeper.
Also, I have yet to figure out a way to leave seller feedback so I want to say that hhipment was quick and the pedal was well protected in the packaging.

This is exactly what you expect for the money. The effect has to be dialed in very high to get any reaction in my opinion. I don’t use chorus much so it’s fine but if your looking for a very layered sound you probably already know this isn’t your best bet.

Overall it’s well built and a great way to get into the effect without dropping a bunch of money.

Bough this after seeing very good reviews and video demos online. Sure enought, I too am extremely happy with the pedal which I use with a Fender electric mandolin. There are no unwanted hums or noises (the problem with the Boss blues OD pedal it replaced)- just many available authentic-sounding overdrive effects that are good for genuine blues and rock distortion. It definitely can be used as a 'clean boost' pedal - or with just a very light overdrive edge- with very good results. Designed superbly. Looks fantastic on my pedal board and thr price is great too. This pedal is all the more reason I'm a big fan of this market of small-sized superb value-priced pedals. I see and hear no reason to pay much more for an overdrive pedal or any pedal. I still need and will keep using 2 other OD pedals that have other characteristics (I mention this to point out that it may not cover the full-range of OD sounds you might want- but to me, this 100% ok and to be expected- not a flaw. Your opinion may vary as pedal sounds are very much a user taste/opinion thing.)

Good tuning pedal, especially for the price point. It doesn't do anything crazy. My only real gripe about it is that it's super bright, so if you're using on stage it can be extremely distracting. Other than that, well worth the $20 I paid for it.
