Alex Sim-Wise Celebrates Tokyo!
As I have posted before, we had an exciting and hilarious trip to Tokyo to film segments about their nightlife, and here are some remnants of that classic trip!
Alex Sim-Wise and Rachel Irving Behind Bars!
I was lucky enough to be part of a great team that shot some great stories in Tokyo with London Talent Alex Sim-Wise. It was her first trip to Tokyo, and she embraced everything about the culture. She was joined by her friend Rachel Irving, and together, they took Tokyo by storm…
Sim-Wise Explores Golden Gai!
Golden Gai is a small bar district next to the party zone of Kabuki-Cho, which is on the outskirts of Shinjuku…make sense? Of course not, and as exotic as these names sound, there are very few signs – except in Japanese – I mean, you tell ME what this is all about!
Let’s head to Golden Gai. In the daytime, you find lots of entrances like this one:
The link to the original “Sim-Wise Explores Golden Gai” story is below, and that story explains exactly what Golden Gai is, but here is some footage of Alex heading to the filming location, walking with our Tokyo Producer Nick – and this is what Golden Gai looks like – the dark, narrow alleys of Golden Gai…
Once inside the bar, which only seats a half dozen people, we filmed Alex making drinks…this bar catered to anime fans – so Alex posted one of her self-portraits, which still hangs in the bar – she is a terrific Artist!
We spent a half our inside the bar filming. Here’s a short snippet of footage I shot while Alex was waiting to film with Corrado, our terrific Producer…

Make Sure You Read The Signs!
One thing to know about Tokyo: as colorful as this town is, there are many shops in these entertainment districts that are NOT for kids – or foreigners – as you can see, the “18” is a clear indication that the club is for “adults only” – and many have additional signage that exclude foreigners as well…
Sim-Wise Cosplayin’ Around!
We filmed a great sequence with Alex in the Akihabara district, which has many “maid” cafes…restaurants that cater to fans of “cosplay”, and the staff dresses up in crazy outfits like these…here is a behind-the-scenes clip of Alex filming with our two “Cosplayers” – watch when Alex’s hat slips off halfway through her standup, but she adapts and keeps going!!
As you can see, we shot into the night, but our two local cosplayers never stopped smiling!
And check out these Cosplay Eyes!

Sim-Wise Gets Carried Away!
Needless to say, Alex got swept off of her feet when filming in the Kabuki-Cho district…learning the ropes at a “hostess” club – here is a bit of footage of her piggy back ride!
Alex learned how to be a “Hostess” – serving drinks and talking to clients. Check out her entire hostess adventure here:

Don’t Get Up!
And finally, we filmed in a six story sex shop in Tokyo’s Akihabara district. Read my story about it here!

And Then She Did THIS!
Right outside the store was this goofy standee, and of course Sim-Wise had some fun with it!
And so, of course, so did we:
Our Terrific Tokyo Team!
Thanks again to the entire team – we filmed a ton of great material in a very short time, thanks to all of their hard work: Sim-Wise, Kristen, Vinny, Corrado, Nick – and everyone else I might forget!
Congrats Alex and team for all of your great work in Tokyo!

What is the reasoning behind no foreigners in some of the shops? I’m not offended or anything, just curious.

They are a very homogenous country…close to 99% japanese. I was told they are uncomfortable with foreigners in certain social situations like these nightclubs, which cater exclusively to japanese businessmen…
