Singer O'Riordan to be laid to rest in Co Limerick

Dolores O'Riordan was found dead in her London hotel room on Monday

The funeral for Cranberries singer Dolores O'Riordan is due to be held next Tuesday in her local Ballybricken church.

The funeral mass will take place at the Church of Saint Ailbe, Ballybricken, Co Limerick, at 11.30am on Tuesday followed by a private family burial.

The chief celebrant of the requiem mass will be Canon Liam McNamara, who is a close friend of the O'Riordan family.

Chief concelebrants will be parish priest Father James Walton, Archbishop Kieran O'Reilly and Archbishop Dermot Clifford.

Attendance at the funeral is reserved for family and friends. However, a public reposal is planned for this Sunday at Saint Joseph’s Church, O’Connell Avenue, Co Limerick, from 12.30-4pm.

Earlier today, an inquest opened into the death of the Cranberries singer in London.

The 46-year-old Limerick-born singer was found dead at a hotel in central London on Monday morning.

Westminster Coroner’s Court confirmed that the inquest has begun following completion of a post-mortem examination.

The Coroner’s office said the results of the post mortem are not being made public at this time.

At the opening, the coroner's officer said O'Riordan was staying at a hotel in London when she was found unresponsive in her room.

"The London Ambulance Service was contacted and verified her death at the scene," the officer said.

"Subsequently the Met Police attended and they determined the death to be non-suspicious."

"A post mortem has now been carried out and the court is awaiting results of various tests that have been commissioned."

Coroner Shirley Radcliffe adjourned the hearing until 3 April when a date for the full inquest will be set.

The singer, from Friarstown, Kilmallock, Co Limerick, was renowned for her distinctive  voice and The Cranberries enjoyed huge success in the 1990s.

She had been in London to record a cover of Zombie with rock band Bad Wolves.

No family were present at the court.
