After the first round of fixtures was completed, FIFA collated together all their statistics and found that Ronaldo recorded the fastest speed of all 736 players at the tournament.

Peru star Luis Advincula came closest to reaching the former Manchester United man, he clocked a top speed of 33.8 km/h as they narrowly lost to Denmark.

Belgium striker Romelu Lukaku was also not far off Ronaldo, he reached a top speed of 32.8 km/h during his side’s thrashing of Panama in their Group G game.

However, Argentina captain Lionel Messi failed to reach the dizzying heights of his rival – registering a top speed of just 25 km/h (even slower than Barcelona teammate Sergio Busquets).

The Portugal forward is not just leading in the speed charts; he is also the top scorer in Russia.

After his hat-trick heroics against the Spanish, Ronaldo scored a diving header against Morocco to take his tally to four at this summer’s Finals.

In doing so, it means he has now scored more international goals than any other European player in history.
