Introduction

Josh Sharples
Professional Consigner

The Aston Martin DB9 - iconic styling with an iconic V12 engine.

The very desirable grand tourer was built for 12 years between 2004 and 2016, hand assembled in Warwickshire. Originally penned by Ian Callum and Henrik Fisker, two designers famous for the concept designs of the Escort Cosworth, RS200, BMW Z8 and many more. With a much sharper design than the DB7, it was fitted with the 5.9L V12 from the Vanquish, had an aluminium construction, and offered outstanding performance. The DB9 was the first model to be built at Aston Martin's Gaydon facility in Warwickshire, and it received an excellent reception from the press when launched.

Peter bought this car back in 2006, and he has covered a quite unheard of ~110,000 miles in the car since then. On a personal note, it's actually great to see a DB9 that has been enjoyed in that way, and the condition of the car belies the mileage in some respects. Take a look through the listing to see what this car is about.

This listing was written from information supplied by Josh after meeting Peter the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Meet the owner

I've always fancied an Aston Martin, and this DB9 more than fulfilled my dream.

Peter tells us that he always wanted an Aston Martin, so when the opportunity to buy this DB9 back in 2006 arose it was a no brainer. At only 2 years old at the time, it was "the car to have" according to Peter. Since then he has put many miles on the car, using it for his daily commute to and from work.

With a new 4-legged addition to the family, the more practical Mercedes-Benz is favoured, so the DB9 doesn't get used as much as before. He will be happy to answer any questions you may have in the comments below.

Exterior

Elegant, sleek and classy - the DB9 still looks like a piece of art to this day.

Wheels and Tyres

The 10-spoke alloys are wrapped in the DB9-specific Bridgestone Potenza RE050A, and these tyres appear to have good tread remaining. Peter tells us that both sets were replaced at 102,000 miles and 107,000 miles respectively.

The wheels are in fair condition, with a couple of scuffs where it appears they've been curbed and corrosion around the centre caps, expected wear given the mileage. Take a look at the image gallery for a closer look.

Bodywork

The fitment of the bodywork appears in great condition, with flush shut lines retained around the car. The aluminium body on these cars can react in places where it touches steel, and this was visible in just a couple of areas around the car, most notable was around the bonnet badge, a small amount on the door handles handles, and another small area at the bottom of the rear window. All in all, given the mileage, it's quite smart.

We've highlighted in more detail our observations through our high resolution images and videos, so please take time to look through all the media files for a detailed view at what’s on offer, and for you to assess the condition of the car for yourselves.

Paint

This DB9 is finished in what looks to be the Aston Martin colour of "Oyster Silver", an iconic colour, and it appears in great condition considering the mileage covered. A couple of minor paint chips are visible at the front of the vehicle, and there is a larger chip of paint underneath the passenger side door, but you have to look for these to notice them.

The images are taken from a few different angles to show off the car as you would see it if you were standing there for yourselves. So please take the time to fully assess these hi-resolution images and videos of the car, for you to make up your own minds about the condition of the paint.

Glass and Trim

On our visit, the glass and trim appeared in great condition with no visible chips or cracks. All the seals appeared tight, without signs of excessive visible wear.

We've highlighted in more detail our observations through our hi-resolution images and videos, so please take time to look through all the media files for a detailed view at what’s on offer, and for you to assess the condition of the glass and trim for yourselves.

Interior

A smart centre console coupled with the leather sports seats make the DB9 a special place to sit.

Seats and Carpets

The leather sport seats hug your body as you go round country roads, and the condition is fairly good considering the mileage of the car. There are a few age related marks on drivers seat, but other than that they appear is good condition, finished in a smart black leather.

The carpets are in great condition as well. Please have a look through the interior gallery for a closer look of the condition of the seats and carpets for yourself.

Dashboard

The dashboard appears in good original condition and shows very little wear in line with the age and mileage of the vehicle.

To contrast the black, the top section of the dashboard is finished in a wooden effect, which shows discolouration/bleaching around the buttons and other fixtures, a typical feature that happens over time with this era of Aston Martin.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

The steering wheel appeared in great condition on our visit to the car, with very minimal wear and tear visible. The flappy paddles behind the steering wheel also appear in great condition.

The automatic gear selection buttons appear in great condition as well, and these are found on the centre console. Please check the photo gallery to gain a better understanding of the condition.

Mechanics

The ~470BHP V12 engine found in the DB9 makes for an exhilarating experience behind the wheel.

Engine and Gearbox

The 5.9L V12 engine in the DB9 was taken from the Vanquish, and it pushes ~470BHP, hitting 60MPH in just ~4.7 seconds and reaching a top speed of 186MPH. The car started with no issues in our cold start test, which can be seen in the "Mechanical Review" video.

We ran the car up to temp (~2 minutes at ~3,000RPM) and then filmed the idle sound to see if we could observe the audible "tick" that some early DB9s are known for, we didn't hear anything to suggest this. Once again, please watch the video to see the car in action, and the end of the video to see what we captured at idle.

Suspension and Brakes

Fitted with double-wishbone suspension which offers extreme stability when accelerating quickly, the chassis is aluminum and is 25% lighter than its predecessor.

In 2018, new brake pads and discs were fitted and Peter reports that they still feel good when driving.

The Drive

A modern classic, the DB9 looks and sounds amazing. The combination of the V12 engine and the comfort of the leather seats makes for a great drive - Peter had no complaints on his daily 40 mile commute.

On our short drive, the car got up to speed at ease and showed no faults - please watch the mechanical review to see this for yourself.

Electrics and Other

On our visit, we tested the functionality of some of the main electronics. The drivers window, aircon and radio all worked as expected on our visit, and Peter assures us that the navigation system functions as expected. The passenger window struggled to go down and up with ease, as captured in our interior review video.

History and Paperwork

Coming to market from ~17 years of ownership, and an unheard of ~112,500 miles, this DB9 presents a great value entry to the marque, and the condition belies the mileage.

In the recent past, roughly the last 2 years, Peter has had work actioned on the coil packs and lambda sensors on the car. Some other work such as necessary suspension maintenance has been carried out too. The car comes with a stamped book showing services earlier in to the current ownership, and invoices too. It comes to market from long term ownership, where it has been used as a daily commuter to work on a 40 mile trip, and is in fairly good condition considering the ~112,000 miles covered. A keen reserve is set on this car, and we think it presents a great value proposition and entry in to Aston Martin ownership.

We’ve done all our usual seller checks including photo ID, V5 and also actioned a HPi check on the vehicle.

We've summarised our own view on the car based on information gained from the seller in the listing above, however, and as you can see, we go to great lengths to photograph and video the car in hi-resolution detail - this has been done for you to make your own assessment from the comfort of your sofa. So please sit back, have a cuppa and take your time to review everything on this listing in order to make your own assessment on the vehicle's condition. Viewings are also welcomed with all our listings, so please get in touch with us to arrange a suitable time - we just need to speak to you first and receive a valid photo ID before confirming.

If there's anything you're unsure about, no matter how small, then please first ask the owner in the comments area below before placing your bid/s, as bids can't be retracted and form a binding contract if you win the car - just like a traditional auction house.

Hi Peter. Could you tell me if there were any services between the last one stamped on the book in June 2015 or not because of limited mileage since? Many thanks.
