Legendary actress Sophia Loren is returning to the big screen after a decade-long hiatus. She's set to star in Netflix's The Life Ahead, an Italian-language film directed by her son, Edoardo Ponti. Below, what we know about the upcoming movie so far.

It's the third project Loren and Ponti have made together.

The Life Ahead comes after 2002's Between Strangers, another feature film the pair collaborated on, and 2014 short titled Voce Umana (Human Voice), an adaptation of Jean Cocteau's one-woman play.

"The relationship with my son is not one that I have with other directors," Loren told T&C of Ponti, her son with the late producer Carlo Pont, in our November issue. "He pushes me until I reach something very good. He always knows what he wants, and he knows how to get it from me. Edoardo is a wonderful director. Otherwise I would just avoid working with him."

Loren stars as Holocaust survivor Madame Rosa.

Loren's character takes in local children in need of help, including Momo, a 12-year-old Senagalese immigrant played by Ibrahima Gueye.

The actress told Entertainment Weekly that her own experiences growing up near Naples during World War II helped her with the part. "I was a little girl, but the sound and the experiences of the war never, never leave you," she said. "Even if 100 years go by, it's always there. When you hear something on television about the war, you jump. I [tapped] into my own experiences during the war and [found] Madame Rosa's truth and honesty by uncovering my own."

The film will hit Netflix in November.

The Life Ahead will hit the streaming platform on November 13.
