Slayers assemble, because Buffy is back… though not in quite the way you might expect.

Audible
has just announced a brand new Buffy podcast focusing on the adventure of Spike (James Marsters). It will mark 20 years since the show’s finale in 2003.

The pod is called ‘Slayers: A Buffyverse Story’ and it will launch on October 12, just in time to give all our Halloweens an extra dose of bitey nostalgia.

The scripted audio series picks up ten years after Buffy the Vampire Slayer’s finale, with Spike undercover in LA, ‘convincing the forces of darkness that he’s back to his evil ways’.

Runs the synopsis: ‘When his cover is compromised by 16-year-old Indira Nunnally (Laya DeLeon Hayes), Spike finds himself on baby-slayer-sitting duty once more. While he attempts to track down a watcher for his eager new protégé, their paths collide with the veteran Slayer of a parallel reality where Buffy Summers never existed… a reality where Cordelia Chase (Charisma Carpenter) is the one-and-only Slayer. She needs Spike’s help with a classic big bad terrorising her world…his old flame, Drusilla (Juliet Landau).’

The podcast reunites Marsters with other OG cast members, including Carpenter, Anthony Head, Juliet Landau, Emma Caulfield Ford, Amber Benson, James Charles Leary, and Danny Strong. There’s the odd new face – okay, voice –  too, including The Equalizer’s Laya DeLeon Hayes.

‘I’m ecstatic to be back with my dear friends for this next chapter in the Buffyverse, as we take listeners on a familiar but unexpected journey chock full of horror, passion and mischief,’ says Marsters. ‘Im excited for old and new fans to experience this beloved world of vampire slaying like never before, brought to life through immersive audio storytelling.’

Rachel Ghiazza, Audible’s chief content officer, is describing the podcast as ‘a fresh, dynamic take on a cult-classic that takes listeners on a fun and nostalgic ride.’

Of course, being set in a Buffy-free alternative universe, there’s no sign of Sarah Michelle Gellar on the roster. Notably, she has previously ruled out any sort of return to Buffy.

‘Slayers: A Buffyverse Story’ lands on Audible on October 12.
