The battle between lycra-clad cyclists and countryside drivers took a new turn yesterday as David Cameron came out fighting for pedal power.

The Prime Minister said that although cyclists were challenging for drivers on country roads, motorists must “think carefully” about their needs.

Mr Cameron said that he was a “big fan” of Britain’s cycling revolution and noted that the number of cyclists in his Oxfordshire constituency had risen sharply. Cycling has becoming increasing popular in the UK after the success of the British team at the Olympics in Beijing and London.
