Man Costumes And Disguise Analysis
Do you know why disguises are confusing? If you dont know im about to give you some insight on my opinion. In the movie she's the man costumes
and disguises defilty lead to confusion.in this essay i will give you two arguments why costumes lead to confusion. My first argument is about olivia
and sebastian. Oliva kisses the real sebastian thinking he was viola in dressed as the fake sebastian. My second argument is centered around sebastian
and viola and how everyone mixes them up. Sebastian plays in viola's place in the big soccer game as they thought he was the sebastian they all knew
and love. I will now transition over to explain my arguments starting with argument number one. My first topic as previously stated is about how Oliva

Because she was clearly confused she accidentally kissed the wrong person. I'm pretty sure walking up to a random person you've never met and
kissing them is considered sexual harassment so see you in court oliva.now on to the second topic introduced in this essay.the second topic was
about sebastian and viola getting mixed up in the big soccer match against cornwall. This argument could very well be a definition of confusion in
a dictionary. Viola was dressed as her twin for a while so when the real sebastian ended up sleeping where viola used to sleep in the morning there
was lot of confusion. The soccer team dragged the real sebaian out of bed to go play in the soccer game unbenounced to them that they had the
wrong "guy". Viola was nowhere to be found until about half way threw the game where they finally got to switch places without anyone even
knowing.I will now wrap up this dissccusion by restoring my facts and opinions in the conclusion. My first and second topic both were excellent
examples that heavily backed up the thesis. Just in case you missed it the first time this essay was trying to prove that in the movie she's the man

Napster: The Devil in Disguise
In the year of 1999 sound recordings were changed to a whole new world. Sound recordings stepped into new hands known as Napster. Napster, to
other sound recording companies, was like the devil in disguise, ruining the sound recordings profits and business. Napster started something for
consumers but soon came to an end.
What is Napster? According to SearchCIO, Napster is a controversial application that allows people to share music over the Internet without having to
purchase their own copy on CD. Not only that, Napster allowed people to download the music on to their own CD and could be played from their
own server and use chatting forums. (Rouse) Napster was created by a college dropout named Shawn Fanning and one of his friends who was only
nineteen. He became quickly popular on college campuses. Some colleges were banning Napster due to the high bandwidth demands. (Rouse) By the
year of 2000, Napster had already had over 26 million users. Basically, according to The Observer Napster was programmed to go into someone else's
music files and choose the songs they wanted and download them on to their computer, which also known as peer–to peer or file is sharing. (Lamont)
Napster may have been popular with free lancers but not with other sound recording companies. According to Implications for the Digital Music
Library, members of the music industry filed a lawsuit against Napster by accusing Napster of copyright infringement. (Crews) One of the biggest
violations that

Filth Short Stories
Wandering without a wonderful wonder while watching a wild, wrecked world, my story began. It was two'o clock at night in a wild sunbathed,
seaside oasis in Greece. Young men and women were partying, smoking, drinking, gambling, and there he was. Old men were playing chess, smoking
in their seaside chairs, and there he was. Families were eating, talking, enjoying life, and there he was. My cousins were walking aimlessly, talking, and
there he was. My brother was staring at the scantily–clad women, the young energetic drunks, and there he was. My mom was talking to her cousins,
happy, and there he was. I was s nagging at my mom for refusing to spend money to get me an ice cream, but there he was. On the beach, sleeping,

However, as the shopownners were cleaning the mess left by many tourists who has passed through the night before, I remember one shopowner
shouting,"We can get rid of all the filth that the Germans leave behind, why can't the Germans get rid of our filth?" while staring at this innocent man.
Then, all the sudden, I went inside a restaurant, and the second I came back, the man had vanished faster than any ship in the open sea. Without this
man, I quickly returned to a guilt–free vacation focusing on spending time on the beach. One week later, I had also vanished from the glitzy,
flamboyant party towns of the Mediterranean to the desolate rustiness of the Albanian interior. While in Albania, I had seen the remnants of cleaning
up Europe's communist past in the last of the Iron Curtain's escapees. Dilapidated buildings teaming with people lined the outskirts of the city, whereas
city centers gave the false impressions of European grandeur through building beautiful opera houses and luxurious villas. However, like a corpse
rotting in a mummy, sooner or later every visitor notices the dark undertones of this seemingly faint

Disguise And The Common Type Of Deception
In truth, deception exists everywhere and at any given moment of time, yet it is cleverly concealed from our eyes. As James Russell Lowell once
said,"A weed is no more than a flower in disguise, Which is seen through at once, if love give a man eyes." Furthermore, disguise is a form of art and
is a very common type of deception. But, the majority of times disguise only creates trouble. Disguise is able to mess with feelings of love, lose the trust
of others and create problems within our lives. Thus, disguise is able to create conflict with many important aspects. Disguise has the capability of
being a hinderance with the aspect of love. In fact, there are many examples of disguise hampering with love in 12th Night. For instance, the ... Show

A clash of confusion and euphoria, occurred between Viola and Sebastian after having found each other alive. At first Sebastian was appalled,"Do I
stand there?..."(Shakespeare 5.1 l 222) but, they later . Yet, Viola's disguise also created conflict between her and Duke Orsino. "Say that some lady...
/Hath for your.../As you.../You tell..."(Shakespeare 101 2.4 ll 89–93) hints Viola's love for Duke Orsino. But, due to Viola's disguise as Cesario, this is
forbidden love. It is forbidden because Cesario is a boy. In which, Viola's disguise provoked many mishaps in Illyria. Hence, disguise is powerful
enough to hamper with love and cause major conflict. Nonetheless, disguise can corrupt the trust between people. This is evident throughout the
book "The Strange Case of Dr.Jekyll and Mr.Hyde." An example of loss of trust, would be between Dr.Jekyll and Poole. Poole was Dr.Jekyll's
most loyal servant, to which Poole had always agreed and followed any order of Jekyll's. Until, Jekyll had suddenly given everything under his name
to Mr.Hyde. That is when, Poole's trust for Jekyll began to deteriorate and had started to suspect him. This is shown in,"Have I been twenty years in
this man's house..."(Stevenson 33). There was also a hint of a slight loss of trust between Mr.Utterson and Dr.Jekyll. Utterson believed that Hyde was
blackmailing Jekyll in some way. But, once Utterson had read everything in the letter, written by Jekyll, all his attempts

Twelfth Night Theme Analysis
The Theme of Appearance vs Reality in Twelfth Night
On social media services like tinder, facebook, and instagram, a vast majority of us has a somewhat fake persona. Maybe, you photoshopped your
profile picture picture to cover up your pimples, double–chin, imperfect eyebrows. This example represents the theme of appearances vs. reality
because things aren't what they seem to be. This theme is commonly displayed in the play, Twelfth Night. For example, all the characters are
concealing their true selves one way or another. There are characters like Viola, who are disguising their physical appearance. Next,Feste has fooled
Malvolio, with his priest–like costume, lastly Malvolio deceives himself viewing himself in a higher position than everyone else, but in reality, it's not
like that. These characters have all disguised themselves, in order to achieve their own goals and desires. It is clearly demonstrated that appearance vs
reality is one of the major themes that reflects upon the play, Twelfth Night.
In the play Twelfth Night, Viola is one of the numerous characters in the play that demonstrates the theme of appearances vs reality, since she
disguises herself as man throughout the play. At the beginning of the play, in Act I, Scene II, Viola says "The form of my intent. I'll serves this duke;
thou shalt present me as an eunuch." This is an example of the theme of appearances vs reality, especially since Viola is disguising herself as a man to
work under Orsino. Also,

Reflection On Camp Reflection
Camp Reflection "This is not my fault" Trey screamed as we quickly pulled up alongside one of my friends canoe. I then jumped into their canoe and
flipped them over. "Camp is so fun" I yelled. This year at camp we focused a lot on who am I, who are we, and who is he. I grew a lot in my faith this
year at camp. I have a couple younger siblings and they always tell me how they cannot wait for camp. So if you were to cancel camp they would be
very disappointed, Camp was awesome. I am unique in god's eyes and this is what i'm like. I think I am great at managing my time well, also I start a
project quickly. Some surveys that we took said that I am naturalistic (likes nature) and intrapersonal (has a ton of hobbies and likes to work by
himself) I think this fits me well because I like working by myself in a group because then I don't do all of it plus I have to trust myself to get
something done instead of another person. Another survey we took said I was a auditory learner. I do not think this is true because I believe that
I learn way better when someone is standing next to me explaining how to do something and letting me try. Also it said that I am a morning person.
This is so true because after I wake up for about 5 minutes I have a lot of energy plus at camp when Mr. Lowe came into our cabin at night he said
that there was polar bearing at 7:15 the next morning and I thought I was definitely going to do it and I did. So that is why I think I am a morning
person. One thing at camp that I noticed is that I like to be cheered for, because when we did the belly flop contest I stood there on top of the
diving board looking down at the water about to do a double front flip and land with a bellflop. It was kind of nerve racking knowing you were
going to hit the water from a 5 foot fast drop but when everyone cheered I jumped and it was awesome. Were all different people but when we come
together were a giant family with a ton of different characteristics and emotions. At camp we had a couple of campfires. At the firstcampfire a we all
shares some struggles we have had in life so far. Then at the second campfire we all told about how we grew in our faith since then. I really like our
cabins because at night we

Blessing in Disguise
Blessing in Disguise Throughout my life I didn't care about watching what I ate or how much I exercised. I just wanted to eat whatever sounded
good at the time. I didn't seem to care how much I would overeat or how unhealthy I was. My main goals in life were to be lazy, eat food, and play
video games. Once I got to high school, my eating habits got even worse. I would always get a second helping of food at lunch, and I would snack on
gas station food. I always just told myself that I didn't care what I looked like or how much I weighed because I was enjoying myself and I loved to
eat. When I would go home, I would get snack food and eat it before dinner so that I would be full. I didn't like having to go any period of time being ...

I had to suffer through the hunger until the next meal. Even when I did eat, I still felt hungry for more food. I also began working out even harder
and more often than I had the previous year. I would go to the weight room and work until I couldn't do anymore. I worked harder that offseason
than I had ever worked up to that point. The effects of my hard work started right away. I was losing weight every day, and I felt better than ever. I
could move better and run faster. It was a great feeling. People started complimenting me all the time on how I was looking, and I liked it. I didn't
feel like the fattest guy in school anymore. When football season started the next fall, I was in the best shape of my life. I had lost eighty pounds
from my junior year, and everyone could tell. I was still pretty strong from the muscle that I had built up over the past couple years, and I was in much
better physical shape. My forty–yard dash time was the third fastest of the team, only behind our starting running back and our starting quarterback. I
was able to move better than I ever had been able to before, and I could run around as much as I wanted without getting tired. It had finally arrived.
The first game of my senior year of high school football. I had worked harder than I ever thought I could to reach that moment. When I put on my pads

Examples Of Disguises In The Odyssey
Athena's disguises shows a lot of hidden characteristics of the characters in Odyssey. It compares Odysseus to the other mortals, his relationship with
Penelope, and also makes a comparison between the gods and the mortals. In Odyssey, Athena and Odysseus are present in a lot of disguises so that
others are not able to recognize them. Although they were in disguises, Penelope and Odysseus were able to find out their identities. Penelope was able
to find out Odysseus disguised as a beggar the moment she met him in Ithaca and Odysseus was also able to recognize Athena when he met her
disguised as a young girl in Scheria. The disguises were a form to hide themselves but, as Penelope and Odysseus were able to figure out, there is a
case that the relationship between Odysseus and Penelope is special and that Odysseus and Athena are a little bit different compared to other mortals
and the gods. The moment that Penelope sees Odysseus disguised as a beggar, she was able to notice that the beggar was her husband. Homer tries to
trick the readers in Book 19 by Penelope asking about her ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There were a lot of hidden things about the characters that they were able to be solved through the disguises as if Odyssey was disguised of unknown
things that Homer did not tell. Through Odysseus's disguises, we were able to find out that Penelope and Odysseus were doing a great match together.
It has undisguised Penelope and Odysseus, both from knowing each other since their first glimpse but not telling the audience about it. Also, by
Athena's disguises, it has shown that Odysseus was a powerful mortal and that Athena was a mortal–like goddess. These hidden characteristics showed
that Penelope and Odysseus are considered as same by having a great match and that because Penelope was able to recognize Odysseus's disguises,
Odysseus was also able to recognize Athena in her disguise by his power and her mortal

The Last Of The Mhicans Character Analysis
The novel The Last of the Mohicans by James Fenimore Cooper is a story during the French–Indian War; it follows Hawkeye and his group in mission
of escorting the Munro sisters to their father in Fort William Henry and the different hardships they meet along the way. As for the novel by John
Rollin Ridge's, The Life and Adventures of Joaquin Murieta, recites the story of the famous Joaquin Murieta and his band as they run wild across
California during the American Gold Rush; narrating the rise and fall of the mexican "Robin Hood" bandit. In the both the novels by Cooper and
Ridge; each have a scene where our protagonist demonstrate loyalty and power, Hawkeye disguised as a bear and Murieta disguised as a lawyer,
exhibit what is an essential characteristics necessary to be considered an "exemplary man" for society. In The Last of the Mohicans, the maincharacter
Hawkeye, is described as a hero; brave and courageous, smart and just, loyal and strong. The character Hawkeye serves for the readers as a
standard for what a "true man" looks like. For instance, there is the scene in Chapter 25; where Hawkeye disguises himself as a bear in attempt to
rescue his comrades, Heyward, Alice and Uncas, who are currently in the hands of the hostile Hurons. Not only does Hawkeye cleverly manage to
rescue his comrades from a very unfortunate situation; Hawkeye also snatches back their weaponry to further secure the future safety of their group. It
is a splendid performance of loyalty;

The Theme Of Mistaken Identity In Fantomina And Sydney Carton
The theme of mistaken identity (misconception of characters based on assumed physical, emotional, and ethical appearance) presents in two specific
characters and is a conflict they each face. Fantomina and Sydney Carton both adopt alternate identities as disguises to others, but unwittingly disguise
their true identity from themselves until an internal struggle with identity causes actions leading to their subsequent downfall during the resolution of
each respective storyline. Additionally, each unveil their identity crisis in similar fashion with how they adopt various personas while not realizing the
affect on their true identity, why they choose to use a facade to hide what they conceive as identity, and what consequences occur from true identity
being revealed.
Accordingly, Fantomina acts repetitively throughout the novel to gain the attention of Beauplaisir as a result of an identity crisis. This is relevant
because she has a process of developing a character and subsequently seducing Beauplaisir, but she never realizes that she succumbs to each new role.
Succumbing to the role almost as a method actor, she hides her true identity by burying beneath each character she embodies. Method acting tends to
take a toll internally on a person and Fantomina is clearly affected, "she found herself involv'd in a Difficulty, which before never enter'd into her
head", she feels pulled into the role here and it reflects in her thoughts showing internal strife on how she initially uses her first character to interact
with suitors (Haywood, 43). Therefore, Fantomina painstakingly undergoes a full transformation to become each identity to the fullest extent she can
while discarding the previous layer of identity until her final true identity is revealed. Slowly, she peels away false attributes in the characters she
acquires. As previously stated, the method of her embodiment of a role causes her to subconsciously adapt this persona as her own disguise. This
method is how she can successfully adopt new alternative identities.
Alternatively, Carton uses his appearance as a drunken, depressed, but inherently good person to create a front that he uses to interact with people. He
maintains relationships with

Concealment in the Twelfth Night Essay
British Literature: Concealment in Twelfth Night
Throughout Twelfth Night, concealment influences each character's life because it's essential to portray how falsehood can be amusing or agonizing
before they can discover their identity in life. Therefore, the concept of concealment not only affects the characters' mistaken identities and abilities to
express true love, but it gives the story comedic and entertaining qualities. Furthermore, concealment portrayed throughout this story makes each
character develop an identity with either showing cleverness or madness, while it also makes each character realize the principles towards obtaining
love and truth. For instance, Viola's disguise as Cesario and Feste's costume as Sir Topas shows ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Consequently, Viola learns that in the role of Cesario, she had to be quick on her feet and defend the probing questions and statements as to her
love and others love for her. Also, she acquired the skill to bide her time, until the time was right, in case she reveal her true self or intentions. The
disguise also prevents Viola from expressing her love for Orsino, it contributes to the dramatic ironies by causing complications of mistaken identity.
Moreover, Viola cannot show her love for Orsino, the only way she can express them is in her soliloquies to the reader, this contributes to the dramatic
ironies. For example, when Viola conveys to Orsino what Olivia told her concerning love by saying:
"A blank, my lord. She never told her love, But let concealment, like a worm i' the bud, Feed on her damask cheek. She pined in thought, And with a
green and yellow melancholy She sat like patience on a monument, Smiling at grief. Was not this love indeed? We men may say more, swear more,
but indeed Our shows are more than will, for still we prove Much in our vows, but little in our love" (2.4.108–115). There are many examples of
concealment concerning Viola alone, which enables her to work for Orsino as a messenger: it causes Olivia to fall in love with her and it causes both
of them to disguise their feelings from each other until Orsino becomes aware that Cesario is

As a busy teenager, I find my schedule filled with a variety of activities including athletics, academics, and other extra–curricular responsibilities.
Although teenagers are supposed to have the opportunity to relax and enjoy their high school years, I find myself becoming overwhelmed with the
stress of fulfilling all the expectations placed upon me. Living out such a hectic schedule can become tiresome, and I often find myself running low on
mental and physical energy. Because we constantly have a game to play or homework to complete, teenagers often turn to energy drinks to rejuvenate
their bodies; however, the popular beverage is causing controversy regarding its nutritional value and potential harm to consumers. While there are...

In the article, "Good Medicine: The healthy ingredients in energy drinks," the author disputes the nutritional value of energy drinks by saying, "there
are some beneficial ingredients in many of them," (1). With a list of healthy ingredients in energy drinks, the author attempts to persuade the audience
to believe the beverages can present healthy benefits. Another article, "Benefits of Energy Drinks," also argues, "Energy drinks have become an
essential part of their [people's] diet" (1). This author would confront the dilemma with a positive view of energy drinks, and he or she assures the
audience of the nourishment energy drinks can provide the body. In order to begin developing a conclusion on the benefits of energy drinks, one must
first understand what constitutes such a beverage and who the main consumers are. According to Seifert, "energy drinks are consumed by 30% to 50%
of adolescents and young adults," and they are drinks, "containing high and unregulated amounts of caffeine" (1). Tanner further elaborates on the age
of consumers when she says, "about one–third of teens and young adults regularly consume energy drinks" (1). Although this statistic may appear
insignificant when compared to the amount of soda consumed by this age group, it has raised some questions concerning the negative effects of energy
drinks upon such a young group of people. Throughout her article, Tanner describes the harmful effects of

Odysseus Disguise In Homer's The Odyssey
The Odyssey does not clearly state whether or not Penelope sees through Odysseus' beggar disguise, but there are subtle hints that imply that she does
recognize Odysseus. The book clearly states that Telemachus, Eurycleia, and Argus knew the beggar's true identity. If these individuals recognized
Odysseus, why would his cunning wife, Penelope not see through his disguise? Many times while Odysseus is in disguise as a beggar, he comes into
contact with Penelope, during these interactions it appears that Penelope is encouraging Odysseus to take down the suitors. Although the specific
point Penelope recognized Odysseus is not clear, the book implies that she did at one point, realize the beggar was Odysseus. As soon as the beggar,
Odysseus, arrives ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Melissa Mueller, author of Recognition and the Forgotten Senses in the Odyssey, states that "Odysseus, by contrast, keeps his own body and voice. His
disguise consists instead of the accelerated aging of his other attributes. Rather than taking on another's features, he remains on the spectrum of
self–sameness. Even when he is a beggar, Odysseus's own voice appears not to have undergone any significant alteration." (Mueller 12). Odysseys is
not completely unrecognizable in his disguise. His disguise was flawed, and this was proven a number of times throughout the end of The Odyssey
when he was recognized without revealing himself. Odysseus's identity was only revealed to Telemachus. Eurycleia, his wet nurse, and Argus, his
personal hunting dog, were both able to see through his disguise. Both individuals, at one point, had a very strong bond with Odysseus. Perhaps these
individuals are able to see through his disguise because they knew Odysseus very well. On the other hand, Telemachus needs Odysseus to reveal his
identity because he left while Telemachus was too young to have a strong bond with his father. If these individuals were able to recognize Odysseus
through his disguise, Penelope, who would unarguably have the greatest bond with Odysseus would most definitely be able to see through his

Disguise, and its Implications
Throughout Homer's epic poem The Odyssey we encounter a homecoming journey for a once beloved King of Ithaca. This king was Odysseus, a
warrior, a leader of men, a father, and a husband. A man of many roles you can say, but arguably his most important, was played in disguise with the
help of contributions from Athena, daughter of Zeus. Athena is portrayed in many roles and also many disguises, but most importantly she serves as a
mentor to both Odysseus and Telemachus. Odysseus, was given a plan to complete his homecoming journey and the ultimate recapture of his palace,
but without the guidance of Athena, could this journey be completed? Athena guided Odysseus along his journey and is able to not only disguise
herself, but also disguise Odysseus in times of need. Ultimately, through the element of disguise, Athena was the most influential aspect of Odysseus's
homecoming to Ithaca and eventual restoration of his kingdom. Initially, we encounter the first element of disguise in the early books of the epic.
Athena for the first time serves in the mentor role to not only Odysseus, but in this event his son Telemachus. Athena comes to Telemachus disguised
as a stranger advising him to venture out and find his father. "I have some good advice, if only you accept it. Fit out a ship with twenty oars, the best
in sight sail in quest of news of your long lost father" (Homer 86). For the

Essay on Deception and Disguise in "The Odyssey"
Deception is defined as a crafty procedure or practice meant to deceive or defraud. People tend to view this as a sinister action. No matter how
sinister it can be, it can also be utilized to gain information and knowledge. How a person uses deception varies among different people. Generally, the
more clever people tend to utilize deception very efficiently.Odysseus masters deception in the Odyssey by disguising himself. Odysseus isn't alone
for Athena also uses disguises. With that being said, disguises allow Odysseus to succeed in killing the suitors. Athena was just as important in
disguising herself because she played such an important role in killing the suitors. She did so by disguising herself as other people to help Odysseus ...

Athena goes above and beyond the situation by setting up the journey. She does so by walking around town disguised as Telemachus, inviting
men to meet up at nightfall at a ship she has borrowed. When it is finally time to disembark, Athena makes the suitors fall asleep and, in the form
of Mentor, informs Telemachus of the arrival of his crew. She leads Telemachus to his ship while the crew gathers the necessary items to sail.
Athena helps Telemachus take action to find his father and even prepares his search. After assisting Telemachus, Athena ventures to the Island
where Calypso lives to free Odysseus. Odysseus is then given a boat by Calypso to return to home. On the way home, he lands on a strange place
which is unknown to him. Athena, cognizant of Odysseus' arrival, travels to the palace of Alcinous disguised as one of Nausicaa's friends. Athena
enters the palace and gives Nausicaa advice to venture to river so she would clean herself up to make her presentable to men. In doing this, Athena
has sent Nausicaa to meet up with Odysseus at the river. It was then Odysseus' turn to be disguised. Odysseus was endowed with increased beauty and
godliness. Thus, Athena created an illusion that he is much more good looking and godly than ever imaginable. This disguise allows Odysseus to
appear much more presentable to Nausicaa when Odysseus first arrives.
Athena, daughter of Zeus, made him seem taller and sturdier and caused the bushy locks

Why is Viola (as Cesario) Misogynistic? Viola's first words that lay out her gender defying scheme are "Conceal me what I am and be my aid for sure a
disguise as haply shall become the form of my intent" (Shakespeare 1.2.53–56). Throughout Twelfth Night Shakespeare plays with the idea of gender
and its role in society. The audience sees Orsino, the duke, trip over his words in his misogynistic contradictions of his opinions on women and their
ability to love. Surprisingly, Viola also shares in such contradictions. However she is far from being misogynistic in modern terms. Viola's outward
duality is Shakespeare's means of contrasting her with Orsino and reinforcing her disguise. (maybe: commenting on the nature of disguises)
Truly, the main theme in this loosely–contained chaos of a play is adopting roles and identities through outward dress. Viola hides in plain sight in
Orsino's court as the young page Cesario. Main point of paragraph: Viola is in disguise, yes. But how much of this disguise is put–on versus how
much is truly her? Ok, what does that mean. The idea that you must dress up to take on a role is very prominent in this play. The most obvious
example is Viola herself, as she asks the captain for (feste dressing up to become Curate Topas Sir Topas, even though he didn't need to...
Therefore, to dress up like someone is to essentially become that person. What's the line between this and normal acting?

Essay about Women In The Civil War
When you hear women in the civil war, what do you think? Some people think can that really be, women are not meant for war, all they are needed
for is cooking and cleaning and taking care of their children. Well everyone who stereotypes women of that is wrong, because just like men women
did have some part of the civil war. Although they may have not fought in the war, they did help with the recovery of the injured men so that they
can go back and fight in the war. Being a union nurse is not the only way they were apart of the war, some women did things that went down in

Deception And Disguise In The Odyssey
The Odyssey
Deception, and Disguise In the Epic Poem ,The Odyssey, by Homer the story portrays the protagonist Odysseus, facing many tribulations on his
journey home to Ithika, after his battle at Troy. However, Odysseus' strong pride and boastful character provoke Poseidon, god of the sea, to not let
him return home easily. During his absence, suitors raid his kingdom intending to marry his wife Penelope, and take Ithika for their own. Helping the
hero, but also resisting lord Poseidon wishes, Athena, goddess of wisdom, attempts to bring the hero home. With disguise, Athena brings TelГ©makhos
to venture off on his own journey to find his lost father whom he has never met. Even early, deception and disguise help Odysseus through tribulations;
however, can trickery continue to fool the minds of his foes and loved ones? Odysseus must maintain his patience and self–control and not let envy and
hatred for the suitors consume him.
Athena, who portrays the art of deception the most throughout The Odyssey, does not only use the ability of disguise in Odysseus' favor, but uses it to
the advantage of his son, TelГ©makhos. "Disguised as TelГ©makhos, she roamed the town taking each likely man aside and telling him:" Meet us at

Dual Disguise In Shakespeare
The enthralling beauty of a masquerade ball is not that of the ball itself, but rather the people behind the jeweled mask. This mask is a physical veil
of deception that people wear to hide their true being; however, in truth, people are always wearing this veil whether they have the physical mask on
or not. William Shakespeare develops this idea of counterfeit personas which people display to the world in his comedy,The Taming of the Shrew. In
this Shakespearean tale, a number of characters change their personalities in order to orchestre society to their benefit during the time period of
Shakespeare. The key players that enact the concept of dual persona to their benefits are Katherine, Bianca, and Petruchio. Bianca, obtains marriage
and is then able to abandon the persona of a perfect woman in order to become her true self. exposing his internal thoughts to the audience, Petruchio is
able to show his true intentions by his seemingly genuine actions to obtain his goals. Lastly, .Katherine changes herself to achieve her desire of her
voice no longer being reprimanded or taken in a shrewish way. With these devious actions taking the foreground within the story, Shakespeare has
chosen to show how his society really functions and how an individual manipulates for their own personal gain.
The sweetest of all characters, Bianca, is the complete opposite of her sister, Katherine. Bianca has learned to portray the ideal woman in society by

Evil Arrived Disguised as Mankind
George R.R Martin once said that "there is a savage beast in every man, and when you hand that man a sword or spear and send him forth to war,
the beast stirs." In the book The Lord of the Flies, a group of boys are stranded on an island and struggle to form a balanced society and end up
removing it completely by destroying all hope for civilization. As the story progresses, the boys use their masks to disguise their identity, to bring out
their inner beast, and to intimidate others.
The main power of a mask is to change someone's identity and to transform them into a new person. When Ralph sees Bill, he says that "this is not
Bill (183)." The boy behind the mask is Bill, but the mask disguised him and created a new person, a new savage. The mask turns Bill from a
normal British boy into a savage. The mask is what Bill uses to become a new person and to disguise himself. The mask gains power because it is
removing the boy's old personality and replacing it with a new, more savage one. When Ralph goes to visit the savages, he sees "Jack, painted and
garlanded, sitting there like an idol (149)." Before painting himself, Jack was not chief, but after he masked himself, he is treated like royalty and
idolized by all of the other boys. The paint that Jack uses to mask his identity does not change him, but rather creates a new person out of him. He is
no longer Jack, but the leader of the group of savages. This is the goal of the mask, to remove civilization entirely. Without

The Bible As A Disguise In Film
This film often uses the Bible as a cover or a disguise, both literally and figuratively. Most obviously, the Bible serves as a cover for the rock pick
that Andy uses to dig his hole and make his escape. Readers do not find this out until the end of the movie when the Warden Norton opens the
Bible. The reason he opens the Bible in that scene is also because it was used as a physical cover when Andy placed it in the safe as a cover for the
stolen books and documents that disclosed their illegal actions. In addition, the Bible, and quotes from the Bible, are used by religious people within
the film as a disguise for their true, evil nature. The warden is a prime example of this; throughout the film, Norton is a horrible person, using his power

Examples Of Disguise In As You Like It
Shakespeare uses the idea of disguise in many of his plays. It is used as an escape from the characters' personalities and sometimes for comic
effect. In As You Like it, the disguise becomes very comical as in the time it was written only men could act on stage. This could lead to much
confusion and comedy in the roles of those in disguise. Disguise can give the freedom to a character to act how they like and a chance for them to

image for themselves. If one can create a self, they can create many different versions of themselves each showing a different aspect of that person.

and soldierly young fellow, who is living, half shepherd, half hunter, in welcomed companionship with a band of gentlemanly outlaws. Unless all this

Odysseus Disguise In The Odyssey
Based on Penelope's conduct while talking to the beggar– Odysseus in disguise– it is evident that she was not aware he was Odysseus disguised as a
beggar. In Bruce Louden's article, independent scholar John B. Vlahos asserts that Penelope saw through Odysseus's disguise in book 18, which
questions the power of Athena and is supported by little evidence. It says, "...in book 18, when she appears before the suitors, she is fully aware of
Odysseus' presence, seeing through his beggar guise," (Louden). It is unlikely that Penelope could see through a disguise contrived by a goddess,
one that even the maid who raised Odysseus, Eurycleia, could not ascertain. After seeing Odysseus's scar, proof of his identity, while giving
Odysseus a foot bath, Eurycleia says, "Of course! You are Odysseus, my dear child. And I never knew till my hands passed all over my master!"
stating that she could not recognize him initially (19. 473–474). It is improbable that Penelope saw through Odysseus's disguise in book 18, especially
considering that the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The article states, "His [Vlahos's] central thesis is that the standard interpretation that recognition occurs in book 23, "diminishes the poet's genius

allegation, Penelope not being able to see through Odysseus's disguise has nothing to do with her intelligence. In The Odyssey, after Odysseus finishes
his tale, it says, "He made all these lies sound so convincing that, as she listened, the tears poured from Penelope's eyes and drenched her cheeks," (19.
204–206). Due to the intricacy of Odysseus's tale, Penelope believed that he was someone else. Penelope's belief of Odysseus's story is not

Essay about Mistaken Identity for Twelfth Night
Mistaken Identity William Shakespeare, in his well–known comedy Twelfth Night, creates a plot that revolves around mistaken identity and deception.
Mistaken identity, along with disguises, rules the play and affects the lives of several of the characters. Shakespeare's techniques involve mistaken
identity to bring humor, mystery, and complication to the play. Many characters inTwelfth Night assume disguises, beginning with Viola who is
disguised as a eunuch, Maria who writes a letter to Malvolio as Olivia, and then the mix–up between Sebastian and Viola are revealed. The instances of
mistaken identity are related to many disguises in the play. Viola, who puts on male attire, begins to have everyone believe that she is a man. By...

Maria and the conspirators decide to mislead Malvolio into thinking that Olivia is in love with him. Maria decides to lead him on by writing a letter,
but means to be from Olivia. This love letter is meant to instruct Malvolio to do actions that Olivia despises. Maria is able to mislead Malvolio
because she has the same print and seal as Olivia. Shakespeare is able to trick the characters and create many portrayals of them. The mistaken
identity in this play is related to the prevalence of disguises in the play as Viola's male clothing leads to her being mistaken for her brother
Sebastian. Sebastian is mistaken for Viola (or rather, Cesario) by Sir Andrew and Sir Toby, and then by Olivia, who quickly marries him.
Meanwhile, Antonio mistakes Viola for Sebastian and thinks that his friend has betrayed him when Viola claims not to know him. While Viola is in
a sword fight against Sir Andrew, Antonio is trying to be a loyal friend by taking the place of Viola, who he thinks is Sebastian. Antonio is not liked
by Orsino's court, so he is then arrested and taken away. While this is happening, Antonio asks Viola for his purse back, which he gives to Sebastian.
Viola becomes extremely confused and claimed not having his purse and being a close friend of his. Antonio takes this asdeception and thinks that

Disguise in Shakespeare's Measure for Measure and Twelfth Night
Disguise is a device Shakespeare employs frequently in both Measure for Measure
and Twelfth Night. It allows a disguised character like the Duke of Vienna to
glean information that would otherwise go unknown, and a character like Viola to
take advantage of potentially beneficial situations. It gives these characters
access to worlds that might otherwise be denied; for the Duke, he can now "haunt
assemblies / Where youth and cost a witless bravery keeps" (1.4.9–10). For
Viola, she might "serve the duke" (1.2.51) and thus hopefully keep company with

She hopes to serve Olivia so that, being in the same company as a woman
who has also lost her brother, Viola might make "[her] own occasion mellow"
(1.2.39) before she is "delivered to the world" (1.2.38). From the moment that
she takes on this new appearance, however, her plans fall victim to the same
excess that runs throughout the play. Instead of simply being in Orsino's favor
and thus gaining access to Olivia, Viola quickly wins Orsino's devout affection.
Valentine comments that Orsino "hath known you but three days, and already you
are / no stranger" (1.4.1–4). Viola's disguise achieves her purpose, however:
Orsino tells her to "address thy gait unto her, / ... stand at her doors, / ... Till
thou have audience" (1.4.15–18). While pursuing Olivia, though, Viola falls in
love with the Duke, saying to him, "I'll do my best / To woo your lady" and then
aside, "yet a barful strife–/ Whoe'er I woo, myself would be his wife"
(1.5.40–2).
Viola is not the only one affected by her plan; Olivia falls in love with Viola,
instead of with Orsino. In 2.2, Viola exclaims, "Disguise, I see thou art a
wickedness / Wherein the pregnant enemy does much" (2.2.27–8). She laments the
tangled state of affairs she has come in to: "My master loves [Olivia] dearly, /

Theme Of Disguise In As You Like It
"The use of disguise is an old stratagem in literature as well as in life. Achilles lived for a time undisturbed with his love because he was disguised as
a maiden. Apollo in the stress of battle appeared in the guise of a common soldier and encouraged his favourite hero. Odysseus returned from his
wanderings in the shape of a beggar in order that he might not be recognized at home."(Freeburg 1) The notion of disguise has been known from the
ancient drama, continuing its journey through all important periods of time. It attained the most exquisite resurrection in the Renaissance England
being used by the erstwhile biggest playwrights.
It has been generally known that Elizabethan drama reached its climax in Shakespeare's work. Shakespeare himself is the creator of numerous
dramatic arts and skills which made typical features of his work.
Shakespeare too used the concept of disguise in a number of his plays. It is not only used as an escape from the characters' personalities but also it
gives birth to serious comic effects. In As You Like it, the disguise becomes very farcical. Disguise may be perceived in a lot of different ways. In this

As Feste and Viola further engage with each other, they continue to go back and forth misinterpreting each other sentences extending their illegitimate

passively arguing, they concluded and half way agreed that words are unreliable (Twelfth Night 3.1.22–24). Viola answers Feste with, "I warrant thou

As she is disguised as Ganymede, this is possible. She would not have been able to do this as a woman. When she is disguised as a man, more people
listen to Ganymede. Although it is the same person, she can have much more say about her views and opinions when she is disguised as Ganymede.
However, simply because her personality is not accepted as a woman, it does not mean that she is not presenting it. By showing that she enjoys
watching the wrestling, she is revealing her true personality. She does not have to be disguised as a boy to do this. The disguise may show other
aspects of the character's personality but it is still shown through their everyday person.
Another point to make on this matter would be that the character of Rosalind would have been played by a male and the audience would know this.
This could mean that the reason Shakespeare included Rosalind's enjoyment of manly sports was because Rosalind is actually a man in the attire of
a woman. There is a large confusion of the gender of Rosalind throughout the play. By confusing the gender, Shakespeare is focusing more on the
personality of Rosalind than her appearance. The question of gender is continued at the very end of the play. In many of his plays, Shakespeare ends
with an epilogue read by a male character. In As You Like it, the epilogue is performed by Rosalind. The epilogue seems to be outside the play as if the
actor was talking but Rosalind is still in character. She says herself; 'It is

Equity between men and women is a deeply rooted battle. As the modern culture shifts further from patriarchal rule, it is interesting to question why
females remained the submissive sex for so many centuries. When examining the play Twelfth Night, it becomes apparent that Shakespeare considered
such an issue and used the character Viola and her interaction with Orsino as a vessel for gender equality.
A key interaction occurs between Orsino and Viola regarding the capacity of a woman's love. Orsino speaks to Viola (who is currently disguised as

each other. I gained a permanent scar on my chin and Reggie claims that I broke his thumb. He has not been able to bend it since!
Jeff tried to prevent the fight, but to no avail. He reasoned that we did not need the fan and to let Reggie have it, but I did not relent. I was right and
Reggie needed to know that. I do not know what he went through to want to start a fight, but it ended with me being utterly humiliated in front of Jeff.
When my mother found out, she was disappointed to say the least.
"I thought you had changed," she said to me. "You know better than to be fighting like that. You supposed to be an example to your brother."
I do not recall her saying anything else to me about it. Disappointing her devastated me. To hear her say those words hurt more than getting a
whuppin' could. I went out into the night, down the stairs, and kneeled in the back yard in fervent prayer to God to forgive me for setting such a
bad example in front of my brother, who I had baptized. I prayed that my bad example would not drive him away from the Lord. I poured out my soul
for forgiveness. Once I was satisfied, I ascended the stairs all aglow in the

I Am A Senior At Baruch College
I was a college graduate and was hired as treasurer in China. After I immigrated to New York, I knew that I have to back into school, because
everything in the past is just like a piece of white paper once I entered a new country. I need a chance to start again, to rebuild my life. Currently, I
am a senior at Baruch College, and my major is accounting. I transferred to this school from Borough of Manhattan Community College, and already
have a goal that I want to be an accountant. I had taken numerous Accounting courses and Business courses, and over the course of my courses I
have grown and learned more, and I also found out my strength and weakness. Specially, my management courses, it has taught me how to be me. I
have learned how to express myself, how to think for myself, and how to act in various situations. Most importantly, I have learned how to get rid of
the weaknesses and make use of the advantage. Based on a self–assessment of "Management Traits", I found that industriousness is my strongest and
ability to get along with people is my weakest. Actually, I'm a very results–driven. I hope to be successful, thus, I do things to the best of my ability to
be successful. I always give myself pressure and make it as my motivation. I saw that I always push myself to reach my goal, because I am
hardworking and enjoy working and getting the work done. Thus, I have my own rule, and that is that I have to study harder to get a good result. There
is no doubt that I

Man Costumes And Disguise Analysis

  • 1. Man Costumes And Disguise Analysis Do you know why disguises are confusing? If you dont know im about to give you some insight on my opinion. In the movie she's the man costumes and disguises defilty lead to confusion.in this essay i will give you two arguments why costumes lead to confusion. My first argument is about olivia and sebastian. Oliva kisses the real sebastian thinking he was viola in dressed as the fake sebastian. My second argument is centered around sebastian and viola and how everyone mixes them up. Sebastian plays in viola's place in the big soccer game as they thought he was the sebastian they all knew and love. I will now transition over to explain my arguments starting with argument number one. My first topic as previously stated is about how Oliva kisses ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Because she was clearly confused she accidentally kissed the wrong person. I'm pretty sure walking up to a random person you've never met and kissing them is considered sexual harassment so see you in court oliva.now on to the second topic introduced in this essay.the second topic was about sebastian and viola getting mixed up in the big soccer match against cornwall. This argument could very well be a definition of confusion in a dictionary. Viola was dressed as her twin for a while so when the real sebastian ended up sleeping where viola used to sleep in the morning there was lot of confusion. The soccer team dragged the real sebaian out of bed to go play in the soccer game unbenounced to them that they had the wrong "guy". Viola was nowhere to be found until about half way threw the game where they finally got to switch places without anyone even knowing.I will now wrap up this dissccusion by restoring my facts and opinions in the conclusion. My first and second topic both were excellent examples that heavily backed up the thesis. Just in case you missed it the first time this essay was trying to prove that in the movie she's the man costumes and disguises lead to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. Napster: The Devil in Disguise In the year of 1999 sound recordings were changed to a whole new world. Sound recordings stepped into new hands known as Napster. Napster, to other sound recording companies, was like the devil in disguise, ruining the sound recordings profits and business. Napster started something for consumers but soon came to an end. What is Napster? According to SearchCIO, Napster is a controversial application that allows people to share music over the Internet without having to purchase their own copy on CD. Not only that, Napster allowed people to download the music on to their own CD and could be played from their own server and use chatting forums. (Rouse) Napster was created by a college dropout named Shawn Fanning and one of his friends who was only nineteen. He became quickly popular on college campuses. Some colleges were banning Napster due to the high bandwidth demands. (Rouse) By the year of 2000, Napster had already had over 26 million users. Basically, according to The Observer Napster was programmed to go into someone else's music files and choose the songs they wanted and download them on to their computer, which also known as peer–to peer or file is sharing. (Lamont) Napster may have been popular with free lancers but not with other sound recording companies. According to Implications for the Digital Music Library, members of the music industry filed a lawsuit against Napster by accusing Napster of copyright infringement. • 3. Filth Short Stories Wandering without a wonderful wonder while watching a wild, wrecked world, my story began. It was two'o clock at night in a wild sunbathed, seaside oasis in Greece. Young men and women were partying, smoking, drinking, gambling, and there he was. Old men were playing chess, smoking in their seaside chairs, and there he was. Families were eating, talking, enjoying life, and there he was. My cousins were walking aimlessly, talking, and there he was. My brother was staring at the scantily–clad women, the young energetic drunks, and there he was. My mom was talking to her cousins, happy, and there he was. I was s nagging at my mom for refusing to spend money to get me an ice cream, but there he was. On the beach, sleeping, there he was.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, as the shopownners were cleaning the mess left by many tourists who has passed through the night before, I remember one shopowner shouting,"We can get rid of all the filth that the Germans leave behind, why can't the Germans get rid of our filth?" while staring at this innocent man. Then, all the sudden, I went inside a restaurant, and the second I came back, the man had vanished faster than any ship in the open sea. Without this man, I quickly returned to a guilt–free vacation focusing on spending time on the beach. One week later, I had also vanished from the glitzy, flamboyant party towns of the Mediterranean to the desolate rustiness of the Albanian interior. While in Albania, I had seen the remnants of cleaning up Europe's communist past in the last of the Iron Curtain's escapees. Dilapidated buildings teaming with people lined the outskirts of the city, whereas city centers gave the false impressions of European grandeur through building beautiful opera houses and luxurious villas. However, like a corpse rotting in a mummy, sooner or later every visitor notices the dark undertones of this seemingly faint ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Disguise And The Common Type Of Deception In truth, deception exists everywhere and at any given moment of time, yet it is cleverly concealed from our eyes. As James Russell Lowell once said,"A weed is no more than a flower in disguise, Which is seen through at once, if love give a man eyes." Furthermore, disguise is a form of art and is a very common type of deception. But, the majority of times disguise only creates trouble. Disguise is able to mess with feelings of love, lose the trust of others and create problems within our lives. Thus, disguise is able to create conflict with many important aspects. Disguise has the capability of being a hinderance with the aspect of love. In fact, there are many examples of disguise hampering with love in 12th Night. For instance, the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A clash of confusion and euphoria, occurred between Viola and Sebastian after having found each other alive. At first Sebastian was appalled,"Do I stand there?..."(Shakespeare 5.1 l 222) but, they later . Yet, Viola's disguise also created conflict between her and Duke Orsino. "Say that some lady... /Hath for your.../As you.../You tell..."(Shakespeare 101 2.4 ll 89–93) hints Viola's love for Duke Orsino. But, due to Viola's disguise as Cesario, this is forbidden love. It is forbidden because Cesario is a boy. In which, Viola's disguise provoked many mishaps in Illyria. Hence, disguise is powerful enough to hamper with love and cause major conflict. Nonetheless, disguise can corrupt the trust between people. This is evident throughout the book "The Strange Case of Dr.Jekyll and Mr.Hyde." An example of loss of trust, would be between Dr.Jekyll and Poole. Poole was Dr.Jekyll's most loyal servant, to which Poole had always agreed and followed any order of Jekyll's. Until, Jekyll had suddenly given everything under his name to Mr.Hyde. That is when, Poole's trust for Jekyll began to deteriorate and had started to suspect him. This is shown in,"Have I been twenty years in this man's house..."(Stevenson 33). There was also a hint of a slight loss of trust between Mr.Utterson and Dr.Jekyll. Utterson believed that Hyde was blackmailing Jekyll in some way. But, once Utterson had read everything in the letter, written by Jekyll, all his attempts ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Twelfth Night Theme Analysis The Theme of Appearance vs Reality in Twelfth Night On social media services like tinder, facebook, and instagram, a vast majority of us has a somewhat fake persona. Maybe, you photoshopped your profile picture picture to cover up your pimples, double–chin, imperfect eyebrows. This example represents the theme of appearances vs. reality because things aren't what they seem to be. This theme is commonly displayed in the play, Twelfth Night. For example, all the characters are concealing their true selves one way or another. There are characters like Viola, who are disguising their physical appearance. Next,Feste has fooled Malvolio, with his priest–like costume, lastly Malvolio deceives himself viewing himself in a higher position than everyone else, but in reality, it's not like that. These characters have all disguised themselves, in order to achieve their own goals and desires. It is clearly demonstrated that appearance vs reality is one of the major themes that reflects upon the play, Twelfth Night. In the play Twelfth Night, Viola is one of the numerous characters in the play that demonstrates the theme of appearances vs reality, since she disguises herself as man throughout the play. At the beginning of the play, in Act I, Scene II, Viola says "The form of my intent. I'll serves this duke; thou shalt present me as an eunuch." This is an example of the theme of appearances vs reality, especially since Viola is disguising herself as a man to work under Orsino. Also, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Reflection On Camp Reflection Camp Reflection "This is not my fault" Trey screamed as we quickly pulled up alongside one of my friends canoe. I then jumped into their canoe and flipped them over. "Camp is so fun" I yelled. This year at camp we focused a lot on who am I, who are we, and who is he. I grew a lot in my faith this year at camp. I have a couple younger siblings and they always tell me how they cannot wait for camp. So if you were to cancel camp they would be very disappointed, Camp was awesome. I am unique in god's eyes and this is what i'm like. I think I am great at managing my time well, also I start a project quickly. Some surveys that we took said that I am naturalistic (likes nature) and intrapersonal (has a ton of hobbies and likes to work by himself) I think this fits me well because I like working by myself in a group because then I don't do all of it plus I have to trust myself to get something done instead of another person. Another survey we took said I was a auditory learner. I do not think this is true because I believe that I learn way better when someone is standing next to me explaining how to do something and letting me try. Also it said that I am a morning person. This is so true because after I wake up for about 5 minutes I have a lot of energy plus at camp when Mr. Lowe came into our cabin at night he said that there was polar bearing at 7:15 the next morning and I thought I was definitely going to do it and I did. So that is why I think I am a morning person. It compares Odysseus to the other mortals, his relationship with Penelope, and also makes a comparison between the gods and the mortals. In Odyssey, Athena and Odysseus are present in a lot of disguises so that others are not able to recognize them. Although they were in disguises, Penelope and Odysseus were able to find out their identities. Penelope was able to find out Odysseus disguised as a beggar the moment she met him in Ithaca and Odysseus was also able to recognize Athena when he met her disguised as a young girl in Scheria. The disguises were a form to hide themselves but, as Penelope and Odysseus were able to figure out, there is a case that the relationship between Odysseus and Penelope is special and that Odysseus and Athena are a little bit different compared to other mortals and the gods. • 10. The Theme Of Mistaken Identity In Fantomina And Sydney Carton The theme of mistaken identity (misconception of characters based on assumed physical, emotional, and ethical appearance) presents in two specific characters and is a conflict they each face. Fantomina and Sydney Carton both adopt alternate identities as disguises to others, but unwittingly disguise their true identity from themselves until an internal struggle with identity causes actions leading to their subsequent downfall during the resolution of each respective storyline. Additionally, each unveil their identity crisis in similar fashion with how they adopt various personas while not realizing the affect on their true identity, why they choose to use a facade to hide what they conceive as identity, and what consequences occur from true identity being revealed. Accordingly, Fantomina acts repetitively throughout the novel to gain the attention of Beauplaisir as a result of an identity crisis. This is relevant because she has a process of developing a character and subsequently seducing Beauplaisir, but she never realizes that she succumbs to each new role. Succumbing to the role almost as a method actor, she hides her true identity by burying beneath each character she embodies. Method acting tends to take a toll internally on a person and Fantomina is clearly affected, "she found herself involv'd in a Difficulty, which before never enter'd into her head", she feels pulled into the role here and it reflects in her thoughts showing internal strife on how she initially uses her first character to interact with suitors (Haywood, 43). Therefore, Fantomina painstakingly undergoes a full transformation to become each identity to the fullest extent she can while discarding the previous layer of identity until her final true identity is revealed. Slowly, she peels away false attributes in the characters she acquires. As previously stated, the method of her embodiment of a role causes her to subconsciously adapt this persona as her own disguise. This method is how she can successfully adopt new alternative identities. Alternatively, Carton uses his appearance as a drunken, depressed, but inherently good person to create a front that he uses to interact with people. He maintains relationships with ... Concealment in the Twelfth Night Essay British Literature: Concealment in Twelfth Night Throughout Twelfth Night, concealment influences each character's life because it's essential to portray how falsehood can be amusing or agonizing before they can discover their identity in life. Therefore, the concept of concealment not only affects the characters' mistaken identities and abilities to express true love, but it gives the story comedic and entertaining qualities. Furthermore, concealment portrayed throughout this story makes each character develop an identity with either showing cleverness or madness, while it also makes each character realize the principles towards obtaining love and truth. Also, she acquired the skill to bide her time, until the time was right, in case she reveal her true self or intentions. The disguise also prevents Viola from expressing her love for Orsino, it contributes to the dramatic ironies by causing complications of mistaken identity. Moreover, Viola cannot show her love for Orsino, the only way she can express them is in her soliloquies to the reader, this contributes to the dramatic ironies. For example, when Viola conveys to Orsino what Olivia told her concerning love by saying: "A blank, my lord. She never told her love, But let concealment, like a worm i' the bud, Feed on her damask cheek. She pined in thought, And with a green and yellow melancholy She sat like patience on a monument, Smiling at grief. Was not this love indeed? We men may say more, swear more, but indeed Our shows are more than will, for still we prove Much in our vows, but little in our love" (2.4.108–115). Tanner further elaborates on the age of consumers when she says, "about one–third of teens and young adults regularly consume energy drinks" (1). Odysseus Disguise In Homer's The Odyssey The Odyssey does not clearly state whether or not Penelope sees through Odysseus' beggar disguise, but there are subtle hints that imply that she does recognize Odysseus. The book clearly states that Telemachus, Eurycleia, and Argus knew the beggar's true identity. If these individuals recognized Odysseus, why would his cunning wife, Penelope not see through his disguise? Many times while Odysseus is in disguise as a beggar, he comes into contact with Penelope, during these interactions it appears that Penelope is encouraging Odysseus to take down the suitors. His disguise consists instead of the accelerated aging of his other attributes. Rather than taking on another's features, he remains on the spectrum of self–sameness. Even when he is a beggar, Odysseus's own voice appears not to have undergone any significant alteration." (Mueller 12). Odysseys is not completely unrecognizable in his disguise. His disguise was flawed, and this was proven a number of times throughout the end of The Odyssey when he was recognized without revealing himself. Odysseus's identity was only revealed to Telemachus. Eurycleia, his wet nurse, and Argus, his personal hunting dog, were both able to see through his disguise. Both individuals, at one point, had a very strong bond with Odysseus. Perhaps these individuals are able to see through his disguise because they knew Odysseus very well. On the other hand, Telemachus needs Odysseus to reveal his identity because he left while Telemachus was too young to have a strong bond with his father. Viola's first words that lay out her gender defying scheme are "Conceal me what I am and be my aid for sure a disguise as haply shall become the form of my intent" (Shakespeare 1.2.53–56). Throughout Twelfth Night Shakespeare plays with the idea of gender and its role in society. The audience sees Orsino, the duke, trip over his words in his misogynistic contradictions of his opinions on women and their ability to love. Surprisingly, Viola also shares in such contradictions. However she is far from being misogynistic in modern terms. Viola's outward duality is Shakespeare's means of contrasting her with Orsino and reinforcing her disguise. (maybe: commenting on the nature of disguises) Truly, the main theme in this loosely–contained chaos of a play is adopting roles and identities through outward dress. Viola hides in plain sight in Orsino's court as the young page Cesario. Main point of paragraph: Viola is in disguise, yes. But how much of this disguise is put–on versus how much is truly her? This mask is a physical veil of deception that people wear to hide their true being; however, in truth, people are always wearing this veil whether they have the physical mask on or not. William Shakespeare develops this idea of counterfeit personas which people display to the world in his comedy,The Taming of the Shrew. Evil Arrived Disguised as Mankind George R.R Martin once said that "there is a savage beast in every man, and when you hand that man a sword or spear and send him forth to war, the beast stirs." In the book The Lord of the Flies, a group of boys are stranded on an island and struggle to form a balanced society and end up removing it completely by destroying all hope for civilization. As the story progresses, the boys use their masks to disguise their identity, to bring out their inner beast, and to intimidate others. The main power of a mask is to change someone's identity and to transform them into a new person. When Ralph sees Bill, he says that "this is not Bill (183)." The boy behind the mask is Bill, but the mask disguised him and created a new person, a new savage. The mask turns Bill from a normal British boy into a savage. The mask is what Bill uses to become a new person and to disguise himself. The mask gains power because it is removing the boy's old personality and replacing it with a new, more savage one. When Ralph goes to visit the savages, he sees "Jack, painted and garlanded, sitting there like an idol (149)." Before painting himself, Jack was not chief, but after he masked himself, he is treated like royalty and idolized by all of the other boys. • 28. The Bible As A Disguise In Film This film often uses the Bible as a cover or a disguise, both literally and figuratively. Most obviously, the Bible serves as a cover for the rock pick that Andy uses to dig his hole and make his escape. Readers do not find this out until the end of the movie when the Warden Norton opens the Bible. The reason he opens the Bible in that scene is also because it was used as a physical cover when Andy placed it in the safe as a cover for the stolen books and documents that disclosed their illegal actions. In addition, the Bible, and quotes from the Bible, are used by religious people within the film as a disguise for their true, evil nature. The warden is a prime example of this; throughout the film, Norton is a horrible person, using his power ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 29. Examples Of Disguise In As You Like It Shakespeare uses the idea of disguise in many of his plays. It is used as an escape from the characters' personalities and sometimes for comic effect. In As You Like it, the disguise becomes very comical as in the time it was written only men could act on stage. This could lead to much confusion and comedy in the roles of those in disguise. Disguise can give the freedom to a character to act how they like and a chance for them to show their views. It was in the 16th Century that there became an increased sense of self consciousness and identity. This led to people creating an image for themselves. If one can create a self, they can create many different versions of themselves each showing a different aspect of that person. This links in very well with As You Like It because in the play, Rosalind creates many different disguises of herself. At one point she is disguised as a boy acting as Rosalind. Rosalind was fair; but after having seen her in her brilliant beauty at the court of her usurping uncle, we must be content, as she was, to see it browned to the hue of forest exposure, and deprived of all the pretty coquetries of personal adornment which sit so well upon her sex, and to find in her, our very selves, the outward seeming of a somewhat overbold and soldierly young fellow, who is living, half shepherd, half hunter, in welcomed companionship with a band of gentlemanly outlaws. Unless all this is set very clearly and unmistakably before us by the physical and merely external appearance of our heroine, there is an incongruity fatal to the idea of the comedy, and directly at variance with the clearly defined intentions of its ... In Bruce Louden's article, independent scholar John B. Vlahos asserts that Penelope saw through Odysseus's disguise in book 18, which questions the power of Athena and is supported by little evidence. It says, "...in book 18, when she appears before the suitors, she is fully aware of Odysseus' presence, seeing through his beggar guise," (Louden). It is unlikely that Penelope could see through a disguise contrived by a goddess, one that even the maid who raised Odysseus, Eurycleia, could not ascertain. After seeing Odysseus's scar, proof of his identity, while giving Odysseus a foot bath, Eurycleia says, "Of course! You are Odysseus, my dear child. And I never knew till my hands passed all over my master!" stating that she could not recognize him initially (19. 473–474). In The Odyssey, after Odysseus finishes his tale, it says, "He made all these lies sound so convincing that, as she listened, the tears poured from Penelope's eyes and drenched her cheeks," (19. 204–206). • 32. Essay about Mistaken Identity for Twelfth Night Mistaken Identity William Shakespeare, in his well–known comedy Twelfth Night, creates a plot that revolves around mistaken identity and deception. Mistaken identity, along with disguises, rules the play and affects the lives of several of the characters. Shakespeare's techniques involve mistaken identity to bring humor, mystery, and complication to the play. Many characters inTwelfth Night assume disguises, beginning with Viola who is disguised as a eunuch, Maria who writes a letter to Malvolio as Olivia, and then the mix–up between Sebastian and Viola are revealed. The instances of mistaken identity are related to many disguises in the play. Viola, who puts on male attire, begins to have everyone believe that she is a man. By... Maria decides to lead him on by writing a letter, but means to be from Olivia. This love letter is meant to instruct Malvolio to do actions that Olivia despises. Maria is able to mislead Malvolio because she has the same print and seal as Olivia. Shakespeare is able to trick the characters and create many portrayals of them. The mistaken identity in this play is related to the prevalence of disguises in the play as Viola's male clothing leads to her being mistaken for her brother Sebastian. While Viola is in a sword fight against Sir Andrew, Antonio is trying to be a loyal friend by taking the place of Viola, who he thinks is Sebastian. Antonio is not liked by Orsino's court, so he is then arrested and taken away. While this is happening, Antonio asks Viola for his purse back, which he gives to Sebastian. Viola becomes extremely confused and claimed not having his purse and being a close friend of his. Antonio takes this asdeception and thinks that Sebastian, who is really Viola, is a coward. Disguise in Shakespeare's Measure for Measure and Twelfth Night Disguise is a device Shakespeare employs frequently in both Measure for Measure and Twelfth Night. It allows a disguised character like the Duke of Vienna to glean information that would otherwise go unknown, and a character like Viola to take advantage of potentially beneficial situations. It gives these characters access to worlds that might otherwise be denied; for the Duke, he can now "haunt assemblies / Where youth and cost a witless bravery keeps" (1.4.9–10). Achilles lived for a time undisturbed with his love because he was disguised as a maiden. Apollo in the stress of battle appeared in the guise of a common soldier and encouraged his favourite hero. Odysseus returned from his wanderings in the shape of a beggar in order that he might not be recognized at home."(Freeburg 1) The notion of disguise has been known from the ancient drama, continuing its journey through all important periods of time. By showing that she enjoys watching the wrestling, she is revealing her true personality. She does not have to be disguised as a boy to do this. The disguise may show other aspects of the character's personality but it is still shown through their everyday person. Another point to make on this matter would be that the character of Rosalind would have been played by a male and the audience would know this. This could mean that the reason Shakespeare included Rosalind's enjoyment of manly sports was because Rosalind is actually a man in the attire of a woman. There is a large confusion of the gender of Rosalind throughout the play. By confusing the gender, Shakespeare is focusing more on the personality of Rosalind than her appearance. The question of gender is continued at the very end of the play. In many of his plays, Shakespeare ends with an epilogue read by a male character.
