San Diego State University.Matt is a painter, photographer, filmmaker and educator.His career began in New York City illustrating for TIME, Rolling Stone, Esquire and Mother Jones. He has illustrated three children’s books: My Beautiful Child, Once Upon A Cloud and Grumbles from the Forest.After several years as an illustrator, Mahurin escaped the comfort of his painting studio and wandered into the unpredictable world of photography; assignments ranging from photo essays on The Texas Prison System, Mental hospitals, Abortion Clinics, Haiti, Belfast and Nicaragua – to album covers for Tom Waits, U2, Peter Gabriel and Tracy Chapman.Mahurin has published three books on photography as well as having prints in the permanent collection of The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City.After balancing painting and photography for a decade, Mahurin expanded his creative pursuits into filmmaking – as director/cinematographer of music videos for U2, Waits, Metallica, Sting, REM and Joni Mitchell.After a low-level rock & roll lifestyle, Mahurin continued to explore filmmaking by directing and writing the feature films Mugshot and Feel. His documentary I like Killing Flies was chosen for competition in TheSundance Film Festival and screened at New York City’s Museum of Modern Art.
