Palythoa sp.

Protopalythoa oder Palythoa is a genus in the Zoanthidae family.

Some Protopalythoa species can be highly toxic under certain circumstances, note to the Introduction section. Therefore, one should always be careful in dealing with Protopalythoa zoanthids (zoas).

Commonly forms extensive mats in areas exposed to surge. Polyps usually closed when the ocean is rough. Color ranges from white to gray or brown.

Texture resembles hard rubber.
Hawaiii and the Indo-Pacific.

Not overly attractive, and better left in the wild.
