2023 MTB World Cup Lenzerheide

Press Release: Nukeproof

He’s a man that redefined the speed of downhill racing, winning no less than eight World Titles across both Downhill and Enduro Disciplines. The Australian legend Sam Hill has nothing to prove. But after 5 years successful years racing Enduro, Sam is swapping his Nukeproof Mega for a new Dissent Carbon Downhill bike all set on a return to the sport he loves; downhill racing.

2023 MTB World Cup Lenzerheide

“I've always wanted to come back to Downhill, this time round, it’s a new challenge, new focus and something to get excited about”
- Sam Hill

The opening round of the UCI Downhill World Cup in Leinzerheide will see Sam roll out of the start hut for the opening round of a full season of downhill racing. The full gang is back with Jacy Shumilak again supporting SAM as his mechanic.

2023 MTB World Cup Lenzerheide

Huge thank you to the Nukeproof-SRAM Factory Racing sponsors for supporting Sam’s goals this year.

Lol. You mean one of the best retired DH racers who went Enduro is now going back…this is awesome. Rude is next.

“another retired enduro guy”? You must be new.

@jimeg: joke completely flying over your head? You must be new

 @LibertyBikes: Ironically, it's not being facetious - it's irony.

I've truly no idea how fast he'll be, but I do know he'll be a joy to behold. Hardly seen any footage of him since his EWS-winning days so it will be a real treat to get some more.

make sure to watch his tea&buiscuits 2 section in case you missed it

@waldo-jpg: Yep, seen everything that's out there including Crankworks Cairns. There's just not enough Smile
  • 26 1
I just hope he makes it to the main event.
  • 8 6
He’s talking podiums and chasing for a win.
  • 7 1
@somebody-else: I really hope so but remains to be seen if he has the pace. Only DH riding I've seen is Troy Brosnan follow cam where he takes some awesome inside lines but the video feels like Troy is not going flat out to pace him.

He is going to win the world championship!

One thing's for sure @gramboh @somebody-else and others - we're all refreshing our pinkbike feed waiting for that video of Sam Hill practice and/or qualifying run!!

Feel pretty fortunate to have another crack at seeing him race DH again. Never thought it would happen. Hope he kills it.

Its the best. If any of us could choose someone to ride like….we would all choose Sam Hill

..going flat out on flats! Gnarly.
  • 2 0
Sam hill going downhill flat out on flats
  • 4 0
Apples to oranges, big respect to the dude but any results better than qualifying and top 20 and that's reasonable. Top riders ride like there's a reset button, to paraphrase a quote used for Amaury Pierron.

is it just me or does Mavic need to build his DH wheelset to look like the old deemax?! that would pop on this bike and be very fitting to the hype of those wheels from back in the day
  • 5 0
He looked quite good at enduro. Was wondering when he'd give this DH thing a crack.
  • 5 1
Finally, the real king has returned.
  • 3 0
Now that bike manufactures are "up to date" on their post covid enduro bikes. The DH marketing begins!! YAY

 FU@K YEAH!!!
Haha - Hell yeah Sammy!!! As they say in the Deep South: "On ya mate!"

Welcome Back and above all - have fun out there.
(rip some clever lines too)

Michelin as a sponsor but blacked out /no name tires?
  • 4 0
Not blacked out, the graphics on the tyres are grey if you look closely
  • 4 0
There are more sponsors I'm curious about how they're going to represent them. Is Jacy going to use Topeak tools and pumps in the workshop? Is Sam going to ride with a Camelbak bottle or hydropack? If his helmet is Fox, his jersey is Nukeproof, his kneepads are 7iDP and he's not wearing a neckbrace here, how is he going to represent Leatt? Interestingly he's using Mavic rims but it is not in the list of sponsors. Would be cool if he'd actually use yellow Mavic rims on that bike. I know it isn't for everyone but I did think the yellow Mavic rims were cool.

@iwhizz: This currently is your latest message. Is there already a release date for your next one? Excited!
  • 1 0
@vinay: Don't be!! LoL I thought I had doubled up on my messages! The greyed-out tyre logos say Michelin!!

@iwhizz: Ah, a response to the OP I see, all good. Cheers!

Sam is about to makes dreams come true for so many riders. Who wanted to beat Sam Hill. Hopefully he can make top 30 in some rounds and get to the main event
  • 15 0
I don't care where he ends up, I just want to see footage of him riding DH. And how dare you talk like that about the legend! Razz
  • 5 1
@chmurka3rg: haha, Sam is a Legend, especially for those of us close to or over 50.
I remember him catching me like I was stood still in Whistler on his Sunday. Incredible and will remember that forever.

But.... I hope he can somehow pull off a top 30. Fort William results suggests no chance (dont get offended by that, thats just how racing goes, if you are going to go between the tapes then thats what to expect)
  • 3 0
@chmurka3rg: same! I hope he makes the finals at every round but just to see him ripping on a downhill bike again will be awesome.
  • 2 0
imagine thinking this way. How would he not pull off a top 30 when he's still more talented than the majority of the field. LOL
  • 1 1
@atrokz: lol... Because he couldn't even manage it at British Nationals lol lol lol.
Ha ha ha.

So.... Who is he going to displace?
  • 2 0
Apparently you haven't seen either of these vids from Troy Brosnan shredding with Sam Hill.

@likeittacky: What bearing will that have on Saturday.
Saw the video of them riding one of my locals with JC when it was posted.

I would love for Sam to get into the top 30 but just thinking he will do it by turning up is very disrespectful to those who are in the top 30 and the 2 that have come up.
Sam.... 31st in his last EWS finish and just a few weeks ago 37/50 elites or 50th from the whole field at Fort William Nationals. (would have got 3rd in Expert, 3rd in 15 to 16, 10th in 17 to 18 but would have won senior!)

Watching Brunis helmet cam from yesterday, the speed the fastest are going in 2023 is insane.
  • 1 1
@likeittacky: apparently I knew what I was talking about as Sam failed to qualify out of today's run.
But the videos are still cool.
  • 2 0
@betsie: that doesn't negate the talent he has, just his nerves, rust, a combination of various factors. He can absolutely still pull something off, the same way he has prior, if his injuries aren't in the way. he's still in his physical prime if he trained for it. I guess time will tell. PS: I race, so your other post is ridiculous.
  • 3 0
@betsie: I'm glad you're so satisfied with how things went.
  • 1 0
@atrokz: ok, so will be qualify for finals 2nd time of asking or even out of Qualies?

He is not looking quick in clips.
It's very disrespectful to the other racers to think Sam can just pitch up and do well in a stacked DH field where racing is so tight now.
  • 2 0
@betsie: Does that same sentiment apply to the dozens of other riders that are there just as pack fill, as well? If not; why not??
  • 1 0
@likeittacky: this is abou Sam, not other riders, don't try and move the topic.

 @betsie: Ok Betsy whatever Wink
