La Goulue now features outdoor tables on its north side along Royal Palm Way.

Just in time for the new year, French bistro La Goulue, which debuted in October, now boasts what has become a key pandemic-era dining-out asset: al fresco seating.

The restaurant, the Palm Beach sister to the well-known La Goulue in New York, now features five outdoor tables, each seating four people, on its north side along Royal Palm Way.

Its outdoor dining adds a new aspect to Royal Palm Way, which long has been known for the elite financial institutions that call it home.

La Goulue now has five outdoor tables, each seating as many as four people.

“The response has been great,” La Goulue managing partner Ed Carter said in an email about the restaurant’s 20 outdoor seats.

La Goulue, led by founder and restaurateur Jean Denoyer, set up its new al fresco tables last week, right after the town approved the restaurant’s Dec. 18 application for them.

Many Palm Beach restaurants have added al fresco seating since the Town Council in May enacted a provision allowing eateries to seek approval to temporarily (through the pandemic) introduce new outdoor seating or expand existing outdoor seating in private and public spaces.

By the end of May, nine restaurants had applied and were approved. During the summer and fall, five more applied and were approved. Then in early December, PB Catch applied and was approved for outdoor seating.

All restaurants that receive outdoor-dining approvals must comply with Centers for Disease Control and Prevention COVID-19 guidelines, as well as minimum parking requirements if parking lots are used. They cannot exceed the total seats they were allowed during pre-coronavirus times.

A condition attached to the outdoor-dining approval for La Goulue states that the restaurant must maintain sidewalk clearance in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act, Deputy Town Manager Jay Boodheshwar said.

La Goulue, at 288 S. County Road, recently added weekend brunch to its lineup, broadening its offering from dinner service  only.
