HAL - Cerebral Palsy Case Report BEFORE: Martin, 12 years old, has Cerebral Palsy. He can only walk short distances at home with help or a walking aid. Outside he uses a wheelchair. His hands have limited motor function. PROGRAM: Our ROBOCARE CENTER team in Tsukuba, Japan worked with Martin using our HAL Lower Limb device, where we successfully performed 8 sessions with HAL. Martin has improved his posture and movement patterns and is now able to stand up from the floor without assistance. He can stand up from a sitting position without using his hands. NOW: Martin is back at home in Sweden and enjoying his progress. His speech has improved as a side effect and he and his mother are looking forward to returning to Japan for further programs with HAL. He thanks the whole team at ROBOCARE CENTER. HAL Lower Limb Case Report - Spinal Cord Injury   BEFORE: Kim came to work with Cyberdyne Care Robotics in 2021 during her stay at the BG University Hospital Bergmannsheil Bochum. After suffering a spinal cord injury at C5/C6 due to a work accident she had to use a wheelchair and experienced limitations to upper body functionality.   TREATMENT: Kim was treated by our therapists for over a year (110 sessions) using the HAL Lower Limb device. She started on the treadmill to relearn walking patterns. Added walking on the ground using a walker and the All-in-One Walking System as lower limb movements improved.   NOW: Kim stopped the HAL Treatment when she was discharged from hospital. She is able to walk with a walker for short distances. HAL Lower Limb Case Report - Spinal Cord Injury   BEFORE: After a motorbike accident and my stay at the hospital, I started my HAL Treatment at Cyberdyne Care Robotics in Bochum about 10 years ago.   TREATMENT: In the beginning I could hardly stand but after a while I was able to walk longer distances in my flat again. I have been with Cyberdyne intermittently for about 10 years now and I notice that the training with the great team of therapists is good for me every time.   NOW: The team of Cyberdyne Care Robotics feels like a second family, which I visit twice a week. I feel challenged every time, but also understood when I have bad days. On one day I was even able to shoot a few goals from the treadmill with my therapist and test the limits of the treadmill's incline. Such days bring me a lot of joy and I am also working on improving my running skills in parallel. Without this training, I would probably never have been as sure on my feet as I am now. HAL Lumbar Type Case Report for Care Givers BEFORE: Hampshire County Council was experiencing a huge shortfall in the number of care staff available to deliver care packages across the county. After investigating why this was happening, Hampshire realised that many staff were either leaving the industry due to musculoskeletal problems or taking a lot of sick days. They also saw that some packages were issued with 2 or more carers as standard, so with a deficit, Hampshire County Council had to look at ways of reducing the number of carers required per call out. SOLUTION: Hampshire used a partner company to research and find a solution that could meet all their requirements. PA Consulting researched and found the HAL Lumbar Type from CYBERDYNE, and after an initial pathfinder trial and consultation with many external bodies - including the UK's National Health Service - Hampshire County Council was ready to commit and embark on an initial partnership with Cyberdyne to roll out the HAL Lumbar Type to carers across the county. NOW: Hampshire County Council has now rolled out the HAL Lumbar Type - also known as the Cobot in the UK - across a number of different types of care, including home care, respite, reablement and more. Hampshire is working with the University of Southampton and a PhD student on the impact of using the Cobot in the care sector and will report on the collation of their findings. Hampshire County Council is also working with many different councils to roll out the HAL Lumbar Types, as well as developing a one-handed care training course that could be used to help standardise care training across the UK.
