The Cruel Prince meets Ninth House in this dangerously romantic dark academia fantasy, where a lost heiress must infiltrate an arcane society and live with the vampire she suspects killed her family and kidnapped her sister.

It began long before my time, but something has always hunted our family.

Orphaned heiress Kidan Adane grew up far from the arcane society she was born into, where human bloodlines gain power through vampire companionship. When her sister, June, disappears, Kidan is convinced a vampire stole her—the very vampire bound to their family, the cruel yet captivating Susenyos Sagad.

To find June, Kidan must infiltrate the elite Uxlay University—where students study to ensure peaceful coexistence between humans and vampires and inherit their family legacies. Kidan must survive living with Susenyos—even as he does everything he can to drive her away. It doesn’t matter that Susenyos’s wickedness speaks to Kidan’s own violent nature and tempts her to surrender to a life of darkness. She must find her sister and kill Susenyos at all costs.

When a murder mirroring June’s disappearance shakes Uxlay, Kidan sinks further into the ruthless underworld of vampires, risking her very soul. There she discovers a centuries-old threat—and June could be at the center of it. To save her sister, Kidan must bring Uxlay to its knees and either break free from the horrors of her own actions or embrace the dark entanglements of love—and the blood it requires.

Entirely irresistible. Immortal Dark takes the best parts of vampire lore and brings the undying, violent enmity to full throttle. Tigest Girma pushes morally gray fantasy exactly where it needs to go, and you won’t be able to look away.

Yall are soooo not ready for Kidan Adane and Susenyos Sagad!!!!!! The morally gray, hot, complicated, enemies-to-reluctant-allies-to-lovers-who-still-want-to-kill-each-other couple of my dreams. They are so Jude and Cardan-coded but so much worse (and by worse I mean better). I regret getting a copy of this early because it pains me that a sequel is not ready for me NOW.

I try to use Goodreads as LITTLE AS POSSIBLE. (SHOUT OUT TO STORYGRAPH!) I work in the book industry and sometimes it's a necessary evil since most people don't know about other alternatives.

ANYYYYWHOOOOOO.... All that to say, I just HAD TO COMMENT ON THIS! BLACK VAMPIRES! FANTASY! ROMANCE! You own my life now. I'll spend every single waking moment, waiting for this book to be released. THANK YOU. We've needed this, for so long.

Review to come closer to release date! but all I have to say is this was dark academia at its finest. Tigest Girma has delivered some truly unhinged and morally grey characters in this book and I loved every part of it.

“Tigest Girma's debut IMMORTAL DARK, a dark academia fantasy about the 19-year-old heiress to a fallen legacy, who must infiltrate the society of vampires she fled as a child to find her kidnapped sister and share a house with the alluring vampire she suspects killed her family”

This old tweet from the author really sold me: “college dark academia with black vampires. they are awful & they don't give a shit and i love them” - I live for dark academia where they’re just bad people !!! And we love them anyway !!!

And it’s a trilogy, I need more DA series so badly

I am so so so excited for this one, everyone add it to your tbr’s !!!!

wow. i mean fucking hell. i’m not a vampire fantasy reader, in fact, i’ve always been somewhat put off by vampire fantasy, but give them to me Black and my interest is piqued.

this is genuinely one of the best vampire x dark academia books i’ve read. the writing is truly exquisite, like biting into the sweetest, most succulent berry.

i really appreciate how kidan wasn’t trying to be likeable. she’s an unhinged, chaotic, deeply depressed person but someone SO deserving of love and tenderness; it’s beautiful, and heart-wrenching, to follow the journey she goes through to slowly realise that, even if the belief in herself wavers often. she’s my favourite raging, murdering heiress and i will defend her with my life!!!

sosenyos. you cruel, beautiful, lonely bastard. i really can never tell what this guy’s gonna do next, but whatever he does, he does it unapologetically and i respect it. he will tantalise and tease you — but most especially frustrate you many, many times. he has his reasons. you just have to be patient enough for him to reveal them. you’ll forgive him and keep going back though, because he’s just that damn charming. sigh

this was a PROPER enemies-to-lovers story, like it’s not those predictable E2L where they’re annoyed with each other's personalities (which is not E2L) or have to begrudgingly spend a lot of time together but the plot finds ways indulge in the romantic progression and then BOOM they’re in love. no, these two fucking HATE each other bro. and which makes the romance so much more authentically gratifying. and the best part is? EVERYBODY BLACK!

it’s a dark story, guys. dark, violent, unhinged, sexy, delicious, delectable. but raw, sweet, tender, and powerful too. full disclosure, however, there are a fair few trigger warnings for death, sexual content, gore, suicidal ideation, violence, parental abuse.

but honestly, my only gripe is that i wish the chapters were longer. there were genuinely certain scenes that i felt could do with fleshing out on a worldbuilding/character developing level and a whole lot more scenes that i wanted fleshing out simply on a selfish, personal level. i was able to snag a proof though work and it’s so tragic that i have to wait probably another year for book 2 when this book isn’t even out yet. you know when you read something so good you need to devour something that is EXACTLY THE SAME, but in a different book? yeah this has ignited that deep yearning for me and i feel the hyperfixation arising.

i will now leave you all with my favourite quotes so you guys know the seductive, dangerous roller coaster ride you’re in for.

———————

She refused to open her eyes. “Just please let me go.”

“I love the shape of your mouth when you beg.” The delight in his voice was too much. “But don’t deny me those dark eyes of yours. They have a language of their own.”

Her eyes flew open, raging with a thousand crackling embers.

He drew in a slow breath, tracking one pupil then the other. “Your hatred burns like ocean ice. And it’s entirely…mine. I’ve never owned something so completely.”

——————-

Words of rage flitted out of him. “You will not blackmail me into caring for you.”

Her heartbeat was in her throat, but her voice didn’t tremble, her lips almost curving into a smile. “I think I’m doing it quite brilliantly.”

——————

She softened her steps. It was both strange and delightful to see him so frightened, when he was the monster. He turned his face, eyes shut. “Your smell…It’s fucking intoxicating.”

I've been sitting here for quite a while trying to find the words to describe this book.
20 minutes and a melted popsicle later, the only word I can say is - wow. WOW.

I'm trying to love this book in a totally normal healthy way but I am failing - MISERABLY.
For starters, let me say this was my first dark academia book and I was very unsure about what I should expect. That being said, this was the most beautiful, haunting, stunning book that I've picked up in a WHILE and I am so, so glad I was able to experience it. The plot twists, the complicated feelings, the mystery, the Blackness, all of it, I could WEEP. This book was so addicting - and each character was so well thought out and layered, oh my goodness.

Kidan and Susenyos, oh my God. When the enemies to lovers are actually ENEMIES to lovers >>>>
I love them I love them I love them.

In summary, I'm obsessed. I've watched the author's journey on Tiktok progress since 2022 (I believe) and I am SO happy to see this entire tale unfold. Bravo, Tigest Girma! I can't wait to see what's next.

Immortal Dark is deliciously devious. This story sunk its teeth into me on the very first page and refused to let go. Never have I rooted for morally gray characters more, and I cannot wait to see where Girma takes us next.
