Morgan Community College (MCC) Center for Arts and Community Enrichment (CACE) soon will host a 3D Polymer Clay Art Exhibit by Layl McDill, according to a news release.

The exhibit will be on display Jan. 13 through Feb. 10 at the CACE Gallery of Fine Art located at 300 Main St. in Fort Morgan. A reception will be held Jan. 20 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the gallery.

Layl McDill specializes in millefiori canework using polymer clay. This technique uses an image placed in a tube, or cane, that is rolled out to slice layers of clay, creating a copy of every other image used in the cane. McDill has been working with polymer clay since 1993 to create series of works to tell stories. Her work is displayed continuously in galleries in Minnesota, Illinois and Wisconsin. The CACE exhibit will be McDill’s first Colorado art show.

“Stories help us make sense of our world and help us to connect with others,” stated McDill. “My 3D polymer clay sculptures are filled with the sensation of story, bringing the viewer that universal feeling of mystery which we encounter in our own life and try to solve, usually with stories. I have created my own form of this technique with polymer clay so I can create my pallete of pictures, which cover all my pieces.”

MCC CACE will host a free Polymer Clay 3D Workshop led by Layl McDill on Friday, Jan. 21. This will take place from 4 to 6 p.m. in Founder’s Room located on the MCC Fort Morgan Campus at 920 Barlow Road. Participants can register online at MorganCC.edu/clay; seating is limited to 20 attendees.

“CACE is so excited to not only display Ms. McDill’s 3D artwork, but to also have an opportunity for community members to try out their own polymer clay skills,” said MCC CACE Coordinator Suzanna Spears.  “We look forward to welcoming visitors to both the gallery during the exhibit, and to the college for the workshop.”

Admission to the exhibit, the reception, and the workshop is free and open to the public. Attendees are asked to wear proper face mask coverings and observe social distancing.
