The Greek Haloa festival celebrated Demeter and Dionysus. Women were said to be able to speak their minds at this festival, and apparently used this to utter all kinds of naughty and otherwise forbidden things...

Hetairai ((singular, Hetaira) high-class, highly-educated professional entertainers/sex-workers) were known to be common participants in the festival, which started with festival-goers parading a giant phallus through the streets. The Hetairai would then dance around it. Perhaps this particular Hetaira was running late..?

Phallic symbolism was also thought to avert the evil eye, and thus bestow good luck upon the wearer! Greek and Roman people wore penis-shaped amulets or had penis shaped wind-chimes to give them the best possible chance of good fortune!
