In Nereis , most of the posterior segments are filled with gametes , constituting the sexual region of worm or epitoke . Few anterior segments do not take part in gamete formation , these are the asexual region or atoke . Sexually mature worm , with these two regions is known as Heteronereis and teh phenomenon involving transformation of non-sexual individual into sexual individual is referred to as epitoky.
