Television universes are set to collide as Professor Brian Cox and comic Noel Fielding are actually going to star in a televised Christmas musical together.

And it's the Mighty Boosh comedian that will be taking on the role of Einsten.

'Tis the truth, we promise.

Set to air on BBC Two this December, The Entire Universe has been described as a "unique" collaboration. Courtesy of Spamalot creator Eric Idle, expect the show to "combine fascinating facts about the birth of the universe with larger-than-life-comedy characters".

OK. Now it's starting to make a little more sense...

Professor Brian Cox will initially appear as a lecturer, giving an auspicious scientific talk.

However, upon turning up to the infamous Rutland Weekend Television, he soon realises he is in fact in a major musical put on by the Muriel Tritt School of Music and Dance, choreographed by Arlene Phillips, where he meets a kid called Eric and tries to teach him all things science.

"I've made many television documentaries over the years, and a constant complaint has been that the music is too loud and obscures the science," Brian joked.

"This undermines my credibility as a serious scientist. I expect The Entire Universe to be the final nail in the coffin."

Other famous castmates include Star Wars' Warwick Davis, in the role of the Big Bang, and Game of Thrones star Hannah Waddingham as time.

The Entire Universe will be filmed at the BBC's studios in Elstree in front of a live studio audience.
