Cameron left stranded as his bike is STOLEN as he shopped for salad
He takes pride in pedalling the streets of London on his eco-friendly mountain bike, avoiding the constant threat of rumbling traffic on the busy streets.
But the wheels fell off David Cameron's green transport when he emerged from a shop to find his beloved bicycle had been stolen.
The Conservative leader, who along with Mayor Boris Johnson takes pride in the fact he snubs chauffeur-driven gas guzzlers, had stopped to buy a salad from a shop in Portobello Road.
Left high and dry: Cameron's bicycle was stolen as he shopped for salad
After taking care to chain his bike to railings he popped into the Tesco yesterday, emerging into the sunlight to find his green machine had been snatched.
Onlooker Gary Yankee said the theft had perplexed 41-year-old Cameron, who was heard repeatedly saying: "But I locked it."
Mr Yankee said: "He must have been looking around for about five minutes as if he couldn't believe it had gone."
Cameron regularly used his bicycle to commute from his home to the House of Commons.
