Windows Whistler Build 24xx - BSOD when installing programs?

Hey there,

I have recently tried to install ResourceHacker into my 2428 VM, but it keeps giving me this bluescreen:



It also happens when installing other programs, and also on build 2410 and 2419. I am using VMWare (which works really well otherwise). Does installation of programs work using a fix in the .vmx file, or do I have to use VirtualPC in order to get it emulated correctly? Thanks in advance!

The same on VirtualBox, so it's just this build's problem.
Before I installed Whistler on VB, I'd tried VPC, but it couldn't past loading files.

Alright, (kind of) good to know it's the fault of the build! Did you ever try the official Beta 2? Maybe they fixed it then

Too bad.. I really wanted to install a 24xx version on my laptop but it sucks if nothing works on it, and I doubt there is a fix for it xD thank you anyway!

I, on the other hand, have it working just fine in VirtualBox.

Did you try 2419? I did just that, and no BSOD.

These BSoDs happen because uxtheme is early and the methods the programs use to adapt to your theme of choice simply make it crash, switch to Windows Classic and they'll magically stop

The builds I've tried are as follows: 2250, 2257 (the Personal SKU (no idea if it works in the Professional SKU)), 2267, 2419, 2428, 2474, 2475, and 2481. Soon to add 2287 to the mix.

Try installing builds 2416, 2430, 2446, 2462, 2463, 2465, 2474, 2475, 2485, 2494 or just simply select a theme that is compatible with that kind of apps
