UPDATE 06/13/2023: I have uploaded the current version! Please let me know if you run into any issues! You may need to delete the folder "0.28/temp/vehicles/hl2buggy" in order for some of the changed meshes to show up or show up properly Here is the Half Life 2 Scout Car! It is nearly done and I have an early version available here. I plan on continuing to work on it, but not putting in nearly as much time as I have the past week. The transmission ratios come from the physics files for Half Life 2, which is hilarious because it is speed limited to 35mph in HL2, which would require a ridiculous final drive to achieve. The enigne is actually a bit underpowered compared to the physics data from HL2. In HL2 it supposedly has 350 horsepower, but it is plenty fast at 215. The tires are bias-ply tires as described in the HL2 wiki. The wheels are modular and you can fit any vanilla 5-lug wheels to it. The overall weight is a little high at 1900 lbs compared to the 800kgs from the physics files. It has two skins: A HL2 skin and a more modern skin. The modern skin will be fully custom and made for BeamNG specifically. Edit: I am not sure I can get the tau cannon to work, but I will at least look into it. Edit2: The Wiki says 4-wheel drive, but the original model has no front diff and actually passes the front driveshaft through the steering box, so this version will be RWD for the base model and another configuration with a fake front diff like the backyard kart as an optional config. Here it is in-game currently (06/02/2023): 05/31/2023 And here is a short video of it driving in Johnson Valley: 06/01/2023 Here it is completing the johnson valley offroad course:
Me on my way to go drive this Seriously though, this is super cool! Can't wait to see progress on this
Wanted to come back in now that I have made a bit more progress. I have the internal camera setup at roughly the same position as it is in HL2 and added few of the props and now it almost looks like playing HL2 in hi def
Half Life is one of my favorite series so it's super cool to see it in Beam NG! I'm glad you are changing the design up a bit (I think?) I know the Jeep/Scout Car has a lot weird design choices that don't actually make sense.
I know it's WIP but Jesus Damn it looks so violent when you offroad it (no offense to any Christians, ofc)
Yeah, it was pretty brutal. However, that stretch of trail is really hard on most vehicles with non-bypass shocks. I ran it with my wip gambler config and got roughly the same performance. I should be able to since source filmmaker has all the files. However, I would have to split up the original files in order to get a blend file together and I am not that good at audio editing and programs that can do it are not affordable for me (I looked into it while working on the backyard kart).
I plan on doing progress updates here fairly regularly, so here is my progress for yesterday: Added the majority of the props Steering wheel Still need to do the steering column Brake and Gas Pedals Shifter Tacho and speedo needles Added most of the non Jbeamed stuffs Wires Halfshafts Fusebox I am assuming that's what it is even though the propane tank leads to it Intake Added jbeamed parts: Seat Battery Exhaust Improved stability of the rear end under acceleration Improved stability of the front end while turning.
