For being an ancient format, the Mercedes-Benz G-Class 'true' off-roader SUV is surprisingly up to snuff with all the latest innovations across the automotive industry's OEM and aftermarket formats. But that's only logical, considering its enduring success.
The G-Wagen (a colloquial abbreviation of Geländewagen) entered production in 1979, and its story is known worldwide to global automotive enthusiasts. In time, it has grown from the civilian version of a military off-roader into one of the most luxurious SUVs of the world, second only to the new flavor of ultra-luxury CUVs like the Rolls-Royce Cullinan or Ferrari Purosangue.

However, in the world of 4x4s, its rivals are quite different – and they reply to the names of Land Cruiser, Range Rover, Wagoneer, etc. Alas, Mercedes-Benz – along with many of its aftermarket partners – has always made sure there is a simple way of standing out in any crowd: tuning.

First, they set out to create the Mercedes-AMG version – and the latest variant recently got a G 63 Grand Edition to make itself posher than ever. Then, it was time for official or unofficial modifications from well-known houses like Brabus, among many others. But what if Mercedes decided to take the next step into the customization and personalization world by itself?

If they did, there's already a feisty solution – albeit only across the imaginative realm of digital car content creators. Evrim Ozgun, a Turkish virtual automotive designer, has decided to get down to the CGI business of creating his vision of the CGI-tuned 2024 Mercedes-AMG G 63 and, in the process, presents a pitch for AMG to take over the widebody process by itself. Sure, that's an extreme take.

But have you heard about the Mercedes CEO Ola Kallenius directly confirming that the German carmaker is really prepared to start the development of a 'baby' G that would fit a more compact format and attack the place of such models like the Ford Bronco or Jeep Wrangler? As such, I now feel that just about anything is possible when talking about the G-Class, especially since Mercedes has experience making it look like something otherworldly – including a 6x6 and a Landaulet, among many other mods.

This vision, for example, sells itself with every trick in the aftermarket tuning book. So, notice the lowered stance, the aerodynamic body kit comprised of a massively wide new front bumper, rear spoiler, as well as side sills that integrate the dual exhaust outlets on each side. Additionally, there are also some pretty nifty hood extensions, a widebody treatment, plus dark alloys with red brake calipers to complete the satin-matte-black appearance that's worthy of much praise from fans of 'murdered-out' rides.

Thus, what do you think – could this stand a chance as a pitch for an OEM-developed widebody aero kit for the AMG G 63, or is this forever destined to remain merely wishful thinking?
