Like buying multiple sets of wheels that you're never happy with.

With simple arithmetic you can figure out Wheel offsets by yourself. Heres an example- my stock 21x9 +35 rotor arm wheels now have 17 mm spacers. So the effective offset is +18. This results in a perfect fit for the wheels. So if I wanted 10 wide wheels, I would have to add 12-13mm offset to keep the same outside position. That would result in the whole extra inch of width moving onboard toward the center of the car. The difference from stock would be 8mm less clearance on the inside. This is off the top of my head. There are online calculators which will assist as well.
Relative tire position changes based on Wheel width, offset, and the amount of stretch the tire width creates. But the best way to visualize it is to compare center lines of the wheels before and after, then take into account any extra width.
I dont care how much money I have now or in the future, I will always DIY and look for bargains as much as I can. Not only is it a personal point of pride, I hate spending more than I have to. I appreciate expertise in fields in which I am inexperienced. But I know cars. And I will let the professionals make their money off others who are too inept to figure it out themselves or are too busy and important.
