What a medieval band would sound like if they had amps.
I recently just got into Blind Guardian with the release of the 2007 Remasters of their first 7 albums (not including the Tokyo Tales one), and I've come to really appreciate the mix of soaring power metal interlaced with medieval guitar solos.Ironically, this was the last album I ended up receiving. I ordered "Twist in the Myth" and this one at the same time (after I had acquired all the remasters, and for some reason "Night at the Opera" took a week longer to arrive. So obviously, I had a chance to listen to all of the other albums before this one. Well, I finally got this one and gave it a good listen. WOW!!! "Night at the Opera" is a sonic masterpiece. Layered with complex vocals and a seemingly never-ending medieval guitar rhythms. I honestly don't know how the guitarist keeps that stuff going all through-out the songs.I thought "Nightfall in Middle-Earth" was great, but "Opera" is right up there. There ain't one bad song on this album. Each song is a masterpiece. However I could have done without the Spanish version of "Harvest of Sorrow". Just didn't fit with the rest of the album. My first exposure to this album was a MP3 of "Battlefield" and I loved the medieval themes in it.

I have been a huge BG fan ever since I heard the Fly single from their 2006 opus "A Twist in the Myth" (which did not fare well with most fans, but I enjoyed it). I have went on to buy much of their stuff on iTunes, however once I created an Amazon account, I decided to get Nightfall in Middle Earth and A Night at the Opera (since it's not available on iTunes) and have been much enthralled with both (my two favorite albums from the band), but particularly the latter. Blind Guardian have truly outdone themselves on this release, the spellbinding guitar work from Andre Olbrich and Marcus Siepen, Thomen's skillful and precise drumming (a shame he left because of this record though), the gorgeous orchestrations, and do I have to mention the multiple layers of Hansi's glorious voice? This album took a bit of time upon first listening, but with each repeated listen, I kept finding more and more to adore about this release, and I still do. This for me is Blind Guardian's masterpiece by far, every song is a tremendous work of art. How often can a band write a nearly 15 minute song that actually beats out the classic Rime of the Ancient Mariner by Iron Maiden with absolute ease? And Then There Was Silence is my favorite song by the band, and is probably my favorite song ever written. From front to back, this album shines like gold. It goes without saying that this CD is one of the biggest and most treasured pieces of my CD collection (have over 100 at the moment). Everyone should spend a night at the opera, for their life may change forever.

DISCLAIMER: You need to be into epic metal. I write this review for people I imagine will be looking for Blind Guardian and bands alike... not people who listen to Cardi B.
I've been getting into Blind Guardian more and more, and this album is an absolute masterpiece!! I do not use that word lightly! I seldom write reviews, unless I feel it absolutely necessary. This album is a gift to music.
I feel like I've been missing out all these years, but glad I am pretty up to date with this band now.
Hans' layered vocals, and their corresponding melodies on this album are goosebump inducing... and the music is top notch!
Extremely powerful, amazing music, and it reaches the absolute apex in epicness.
This album takes you on a journey that you do not want to end.
You just have to listen to it if you love progressive metal, there are no other words I can say that will do it justice.

I thought this was very good and a precursor to later outstanding efforts. Download Sacred Worlds for 99 cents or buy At The Edge Of Time if you want to hear this band at their best. If you love these efforts you will like this a lot.

FINALLY a new Blind Guardian album,it's been so looooong but the wait was WELL worth it.. For all you fans of "old BG" this album is thier hardest album by far, but you fans of the more melodic BG dont fret it's all good they still have those melodies that will take you to a endless ocean of pleasure!
Now I know the US version wont be released untill March 19th but I couldnt wait so I bought this version. and the extra track is a musical version of HOS.. Was it worth the money??!!! Well thats a stupied question YES, with out a single doubt in my head it was worth it. The songs are to die for. and the length is perfect around 65 give or take a minute. Now I just cant wait untill they tour the USA and Hansi said they are almost positive that they would ^_^, but that wont be untill the end of this year. so do your self a favor BUY BUY BUY it dont matter whitch one you buy(import or wait untill the domestic release) I relise not everyone is as insane as me and willing to dish out this much.

Hailing from a more experimental time in the band's history, "A Night at the Opera" is usually one of those "hit or miss" albums with some fans. Personally, I love it. There's pure creativity dripping from each note, with some musical structures never heard before or since in the band's history. In particular, "Battlefield" has one of the most powerful and intense intros in all of music, and the album's finale "And Then There Was Silence" is easily one of the greatest songs of our era (seriously, it's a 15-minute retelling of the Iliad in song form that never gets boring).
Definitely an album worth checking out!

So I ordered this CD a while back from westcoastmetal and was excited to see a package arrive. When I opened it, it turned out to be a different Blind Guardian CD. I contacted the seller about it and asked if i could exchange it and he let me keep it for my troubles plus sent me the correct CD a few days later. Both came extremely quickly and in the condition promised. Definitely look forward to buying more from here.

Un disco muy bueno aunque no su mejor lp desde mi punto de vista; tiene canciones por las que es imprescindible su compra como And Then There Was Silence un himno de esta banda.

Komplexes Meisterwerk !!!
Reviewed in Germany on January 24, 2016
