First, I am not a coffee snob. I like coffee, I like lattes, americanos, etc. I do know what flavor I like: dark. I am pretty happy with my french press, cold brew jar and percolator. Honestly, the percolator is my favorite way to brew coffee. I got a hankering to make lattes at home though, so I was excited when this came up on this machine.
The price on this espresso machine gave me the impression that it was going to be a disposable product. I was surprised to find that it is pretty well made and not all plastic, although the water container is.
Learning how to use this has been challenging for me. I've never used an espresso machine before. Some of the parts fit very tightly and it's been a bit difficult to put them on and take them off.
Firstly, the portafilter screws onto the machine a quarter turn. The lateral pressure to complete that quarter turn which creates a very tight seal is more than the weight of the machine, so the machine moves rather than the portafilter. You have to provide downward force on the top of the machine or hold it strongly on the right side while turning to get the portafilter on completely. This really makes me understand why more expensive brands are so heavy and that being lightweight is not an advantage in this case.
The other part that gives me trouble is the water container. The seal between the container and machine is also very tight, as it should be. Unfortunately, there is no handle on the water container, so the only way to get a grip on it is to open the lid and use your fingers the pull hard upwards. I suppose you could turn the machine around and put your hands on either side to pull it up, but that isn't the easiest either. Sure, you can leave the water container there and fill it up, but you still have to clean it periodically.
As far as making espresso, the process is getting easier and easier. Although this isn't as simple as just pushing a button. Sometimes I feel a bit like I'm trying to drive the Willy Wonka mobile. Press this button, turn this dial, turn it back again, press another button. This is not like making coffee.
All that said, this is a nice little machine for the price. I gave this 4 stars because despite my challenges with the machine, it works and I can only find fault for some of the design choices, not the functionality.

Absolutely love our new Espresso machine, just don't love the fact that I got it at a price point that is $50 more expensive than it is now!

Well made, solid, consistent, easy to use. Makes great espresso, although I don't have much to compare it to. All pieces are well constructed metal, although the tamper and scoop are plastic. Needed to purchase those things separately.

Still a little inconsistent with the steam wand/milk frother. Instructions unclear regarding how/when to release heat and at what point to insert steam wand.

All in all, a solid starter product, especially at the price it is now.

I had a lot of doubts that this espresso machine would be good. The price was pretty low (relatively) and the brand is not known for coffee products. Regardless, I gave the machine a try, and I am glad I did.
For context about me, I was never a barista, and I have only used 2 espresso machines prior to this that were difficult to work with. So this is my non-coffee snob review - I am just someone who likes saving money by making drinks at home!

Build: The quality of the machine itself was surprising. A majority of it is metal, save the clear water tank in the back. I washed all the detachable parts and they didn't develop water spots, so that is also a good sign.

Parts: Comes with two different size inserts for a single shot and a double shot of espresso. These are also metal. Steam wand is partially detachable for cleaning. Has a detachable spill tray.

Operation: So simple to use. Wait for machine to warm up, hit button, make espresso. Hit steam button, wait for beep, turn knob and make steam. It is a piece of cake. The instructions are also pretty good. Not as good as a company who only makes coffee machines, but good enough to understand how to operate the machine with little left to the imagination. You can program settings for your water hardness and temperature to make the coffee, but these aren't really required.

Espresso: Good and strong. I had a family member taste it because he had just came back from Italy where he had an espresso nearly every day. He said the flavor was rich and "quite lovely" so I feel that speaks to the quality of the shot pulled. Also, an impressive amount of crema (golden foam on the top of the shot) was abundant, which is a good thing and reflective of the machine in the coffee world.

Milk: Heats up FAST. The steam wand is not joking around. I haven't quite mastered this yet - I keep accidently overflowing my steaming container with foam.

Overall, great espresso machine for the price point and quality. I am impressed and will continue to use it for my morning latte!
