Through the years working in the classrooms and closely with other educators, she noticed the lack of multi-cultural resources that represented children of color. We ordered this book before baby was born so we could read it to her and she could know our voices. We love the positive affirmations and the fun illustrations! I do think our copy maybe has a misprinted cover—it seems a little blurry, like the different layers of ink were misaligned, if that makes sense? I think we will be investing in the hardcover version soon, since our 9mo loves to ‘turn the pages’ for herself.

I enjoyed this book enormously! I found it's message wonderfully positive and inspirational. I read it to my 9 yr.old granddaughter, and she enjoyed it too. Plus, I read it in a church service for the children in our congregation. With it's colorful artwork and lovely illustrations it provides a much needed supportive message for Asian American girls...that they are, indeed, amazing.

By reinforcing these statements to our children, I believe they will grow up more mentally healthy and confident to tackle life’s challenges. Qui discusses adjectives that describe qualities of the character like being adaptable, appreciative, and assertive. She is also independent in her opinions, while also being very community oriented. She interacts with children of different cultures while pursuing her own interests and projects.

There are not too many books available with female Asian protagonists and this book is a good choice for primary grade children to encourage self-confidence and reinforce self-esteem.
