The Acura ZDX EV

The brand's first total all-electric vehicle, the Acura ZDX is new at Palm Beach Acura. If the name sounds familiar, you wouldn't be wrong. Instead, this time around the new Acura ZDX carries a "Z" for zero emissions. It's a repurposing of a familiar name, but this time with different meaning.

At one point, the Acura ZDX was a fastback-based four-door coupe-like SUV. That was in the past. Today, the new ZDX is Acura's first-ever all-electric vehicle with a maximum range of up to 325 miles per charge¹. Sized between the compact RDX and the large MDX, the midsize ZDX is built on a new platform loaded with technology. And incidentally, it shares that platform and technology with the Cadillac Lyriq.

What's new here? Everything.

From the ground up, the new Acura ZDX will feature an entirely new form of propulsion for the brand. The ZDX will be available in three flavors starting with:

• The Acura ZDX A-Spec RWD.
• The Acura ZDX A-Spec AWD with two electric motors.
• The higher-performance Acura ZDX Type S, also with two electric motors and AWD.

The base Acura ZDX A-Spec RWD features a single 340-horsepower electric motor with rear-wheel drive. It's the longest range version of the ZDX and at 325 miles per charge¹. The AWD A-Spec with two motors is able to achieve an estimated 315 miles¹, while the high-performance Type S can stretch its legs for up to 288 miles¹, under the best of conditions.

In addition to the two motors and AWD power, the ZDX Type S includes a sport-tuned adaptive suspension. It can tow up to 3,000 pounds. As an added bonus, the Type S includes Brembo high-performance brakes.

Charge At Home

How will you charge the Acura ZDX? Available charging packages include home charging stations that Acura Home Electrification (AHE) will help drivers setup via dedicated Energy Advisors to find the option that best fits their needs. Charge it up!

Using a DC fast charger, the ZDX can add 81 miles of range in around 10 minutes. On a home-based 240-volt charge system, it can replenish the battery at a rate of around 30 miles per hour.

Technology is baked into the new ZDX. One of the highlights is Hands Free Cruise, which is offered as part of the AcuraWatch 360+ system. Acura, collaborating with General Motors, has developed a form of Super Cruise technology for the ZDX. The result is a feature that will guide you autonomously along 400,000 miles of compatible roadways.

The 360+ system also includes features like Automatic Parking Assist for parking in parallel spaces, active blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic braking with pedestrian detection.

Looks, inside and out.

The new Acura ZDX is a handsome look at contemporary SUV design. Featuring a black "floating" roof, it offers an elegant contrast to your selected body color. Acura's trademarked jewel eye LED headlights are here, along with a new, more subdued grille. It's a striking look, if you ask us.

Inside, you'll find that Acura has come around to buttons once again. An 11.3-inch infotainment touchscreen display operates a system that includes wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The Google Maps app is accessed through both the infotainment and driver information screens.

Finally, ZDX models will include a new high-end Bang & Olufsen premium audio system. The new standard equipment system will feature 14 speakers, four of which are mounted in the ceiling.

The Previous Iteration of the Acura ZDX

The last time we saw the Acura ZDX it was in the form of a gas-powered SUV all the way back in 2013. This previous ZDX shared its platform, wheelbase, standard all-wheel drive, and overall width with the MDX. And though the MDX is designed to seat seven, the intent behind the ZDX was to provide "a means of freedom and escape for two adults and their cargo." The 2013 ZDX featured Acura's largest engine, which offered a remarkable combination of power, efficiency and refinement. The 3.7L VTEC V6 engine pumped out an astounding 300 hp and 270 lb-ft of torque. Plus, with a 21-gallon fuel capacity, it's possible to go 400 miles between fill-ups. A Sequential SportShift Automatic Transmission with Paddle Shifters gave the driver the best of both worlds by delivering the convenience of precise and intuitive automatic shifting with the ability to control it manually, if you so chose. The ZDX also came equipped with Acura's Super Handling All-Wheel Drive system that enhanced high-performance dry-road handling in addition to all-weather driving. With the second row seats folded down, drivers got an unparalleled 57.3 cu ft. for all of your golf clubs, skis, luggage and furniture.
