About this Item
First Edition (NAP). This is a very rare book. I've seen only one or two others for sale. But this copy is singularly unique because it is Signed by the artist, flat-signed on the copyright page. It is also in excellent condition. Take a look at the photographs. The red covers, front, spine and rear are perfectly clean. I don't see any wear, not on the edges or corners or spine ends. The gilt lettering on the spine is very bright. The book is very solidly bound from cover to cover with nicely tight covers as well. The pages are in exceptional condition as well. They are white and bright. I didn't see one instance of soiling. The white inside covers and end papers are perfectly clean as well. I'm not seeing any creasing. There are no markings. No attachments. And with the exception of the artist's signature no one has written their name or anything else anywhere in the book. There are color reproductions of his paintings on just about every page. They are all in excellent condition. You can see the dust jacket in the first three photographs. Unlike the book, it has some wear. Specifically, there are several small tears off the top edge of the front cover. There are several slightly longer tears off the top edge of the rear cover. There is one tear off the bottom edge of the rear cover. There is some rubbing or scuffing at the spine ends. And there is one small scuff at the middle of the rear cover. The flaps are in pretty nice shape. There is one very small tear off the top edge of the rear flap and there is a little crease at the inside top corner of the rear flap. The jacket is not priced or clipped. I had it in a fitted protective cover which I removed in order to get a better view of the jacket. I will wait until the photos are scanned to replace it with a new protective cover to avoid in order to avoid the glare it creates. From the dust jacket: "The artist creates because he has no other choice. What he creates is an extension of his own persona. That which must be exposed to give meaning to his life. Nowhere is this line, this obsession with self-exposure, more evident than in Yarek Godfrey.ow's work. Epic, tender, conflicted and ultimately accepting of duality, his paintings confront rather than passively wait for discovery. Yet always, no matter how tense, there is a tenderness; a belief in innocence and beauty that establishes the true nature of the artist. Always there is a sense of destiny." 'Yarek Godfrey (also Godfrey.ow or Jaroslaw Godfrejow, real name Jaroslaw Pawel Nowicki) was a Polish artist of French, British and Austrian origins. He was born in 1957 in Olsztyn, Poland. In 1982 he graduated from the Academie des Beaux Arts, in Cracow and the Studies for Stage & Costume design for theater in Cracow. In 1983 he moved to Paris. He lived and worked in both Paris and New York. Godfrey received numerous awards for his work (among others, the Gold Medal of the XXXVIII Salon of Young Artists, Grand Palais, Paris, 1987; Grand Prix of the XXVI International Art Salon Côte d?Azur, Cannes, 1990). He presented his work at numerous group and individual exhibitions, primarily in the United States and France, but also in Belgium, Monaco or Italy. He died, by his own hand, on March 28th, 2014.'.
