Andy Kaufman
Kaufman got his wrestling start as the self-proclaimed “Inter-Gender Wrestling Champion of the World” who paid women $1,000 to go one-on-one with him. This led to an iconic feud with Jerry “The King” Lawler, with Kaufman even faking a neck injury from a pile driver given by Lawler to really sell it. Their memorable rivalry spilled over onto Late Night with David Letterman, where Letterman tried to act as a mediator and both men nearly came to blows on air. More than a decade after Kaufman’s death from lung cancer in 1984, Lawler revealed that their entire feud was a work, aka fake, and that they were really good friends.
“He loved it, loved the business, was so respectful of everybody and everything about the business,” Lawler said of Kaufman.
For his efforts, Kaufman was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame as part of the Class of 2023.
No Pat McAfee or Jackass crew? Invalid list.
But McAfee is there….?
Snooki and Lawrence Taylor were dreadful in their respective matches. Swap them with Bad Bunny and the Jackass gang.
nevermind. i see bad bunny on the list.
Plus LT’s win absolutely destroyed the career of Bam Bam Bigelow.
Choose Snooki over pat Mcafee?? Really?
Wait, no mention of Maria Menounos? Not only is she a real-life wrestling fan (she did Dusty Rhodes’ “Hard Times” promo word for word on a red carpet), she competed in a WrestleMania tag match and did well for herself!
none of this would be possible without the celebrity that started it all….Andy Kaufmann
and then Mr. T who kciked off the WWE’s obsession with celebrity wrestlers
Mr. T was really terrified and had to be reassured that the wrestlers wouldn’t hurt him. Roddy Piper and Mr. Wonderful were the opposition.
What a joke of a list. No Pat McAfee, Mr. T, Floyd Mayweather, Jr. or Any Kaufmann. At least they didn’t put Rob Gronkowski on this list who was an utter embarrassment
Three of the four you mentioned are on the list. And agreed: Mayweather should be on the list, ahead of Rodman. I mean, Karl Malone should be on the list ahead of Rodman.
Notice that his comment was made in March. This is a reposted article with additions.
Nice catch.
Dammit TVLine, you got me again!
All In wasn’t a Ring of Honor show. True, it featured a lot of ROH talent among other independents and some New Japan guys, but it wasn’t a ROH show. And it was the genesis of AEW.
Actually it technically was, the production staff and streaming infrastructure were all borrowed from ROH, ROH held the rights to the name and the original event, that’s why AEW ran shows under the name All Out instead. When Tony Khan bought ROH AEW gained the rights to the name and the original show which is why they were able to run another All In earlier this year for the first time and just this week added the original All In to their streaming deal on Fite.
What about Karl Malone he teamed up with Hulk Hogan in the late 90’s.
What a joke, Ali took on Antonio Anoki in a Wrestler vs Boxer that set the stage for the current MMA. Chuck Wepner the man who inspired Rockey Balboa took on Gorilla Monsoon. No Mr T? Joke of a list
Starting off with Bad Bunny was the indicator of how dreadful the list is.
You can’t even call this a list if you don’t include Andy Kaufman.
Admit it, Keisha… You saw the “Bad Bunny promo vs Bad Bunny on SNL” thread on reddit SC, and it made you make and publish this list here… haha
If you want real, great wrestling, check out Impact Wrestling’s Bound for Glory tomorrow night on Pay-per-view, FITE, Premier and DAZN.
Pat McAfee …..yum yum yum yum yum
Lawrence Taylor was awful and stole a main event from deserving wrestlers. Hogan/Rodman vs. DDP/Malone is considered to be the official death of WCW and David Arquette winning the championship spat on what legacy WCW had left.
