1 First and Last Name Presenter’s Title
Introduce yourself and give a general overview of what you will be covering in this presentation.

2 AutoCAD® Software We’re continuously improving the AutoCAD® software you know and trust. Through our extensive customer research, surveys, and focus groups, AutoCAD software customers tell us that AutoCAD is an integral part of their daily life. Many customers have used AutoCAD for most of their professional career. They use the product 20 to 30 hours a week, and count on it to get their jobs done quickly and efficiently. They want to know that we are committed to improving AutoCAD, but they also count on us not to be too disruptive. (When they want a revolutionary change, they look to the industry-specific applications to provide it.) Based on this information, we created the tagline you see above. It is meant to encourage them to seek more information about this release and to reassure them it will be worth their while to do so.

3 25 Years of AutoCAD: The Past 5 Releases
Autodesk Confidential This slide uses a series of builds to illustrate two key, high-level strategies around the development of AutoCAD. The “cake” chart that appears first shows the categories that the product management team looks at when creating the requirements for the next release of AutoCAD (customization, workflow, drafting, and so forth). The triangle shows what portion is used by AutoCAD LT® software, primarily drafting with some publishing. The series of release-specific boxes at the bottom show the key features for each release. These are 2006 – Dynamic blocks and heads-up design 2007 – Conceptual design and visualization 2008 – Annotation enhancements (scaling, text, tables, and so on) The key point is to find out what release the customer is currently using and emphasize all the benefits they will gain from upgrading to AutoCAD Even subscription customers are not typically using AutoCAD 2008 throughout their entire organization, so remind them of the features of the other releases.

4 AutoCAD® 2009 Autodesk has one goal: increasing your productivity. The new user interface has been optimized to boost your efficiency: Ribbon toolbar ViewCube™ Action Recorder Layer Properties Manager Fit and Finish NEW - AutoCAD 2009 will include Autodesk Impression The key theme of the AutoCAD 2009 release is the new user interface. The 25-word product description emphasizes the driver behind this change: increased productivity and increased efficiency. The updated user interface makes drafting more efficient. It is based on usability studies, extensive testing, and feedback from customers, as well as an examination of industry standards (primarily the work done by Microsoft for the new Office 2007 interface). AutoCAD 2009 is easy to learn and use by both experienced and new users, making the decision to upgrade easy for both users and CAD/IT managers. With the AutoCAD 2009 release, a seat of Autodesk Impression (English only) will be shipped with each seat of AutoCAD (for English language versions only). Autodesk Impression is a new product from Autodesk. With Impression you can create visual impressions of designs quickly and easily using existing CAD files.

5 Ribbon Problem The current toolbar and menu system is complex and difficult to use: Multiple ways to perform a single task Options buried in secondary dialog boxes Commands grouped by function not task Difficult for new users The current AutoCAD toolbar and menu system was first created with the introduction of the Microsoft® Windows® operating system. It has been enhanced and extended over many years to add new features without disrupting customers’ existing workflows. Over time, this has resulted in a large number of ways of performing the same task or several different tools that do similar tasks. This has led to AutoCAD having an “older” look and feel (especially compared to the new Microsoft Office interface) and a confusing experience for new users and experienced users who are trying to use new functionality.

6 Ribbon Solution The new ribbon interface gives simple, task-based access to commands: Fewer clicks to reach commands Commands presented based on task Clean modern design Easier for new users Roll-over help Customizable and extensible The new ribbon interface has been redesigned from the ground up to optimize AutoCAD for efficiency and productivity. The task-based design of the ribbon means that as users select objects to work on, they are presented with the most commonly used tools in the ribbon. This minimizes the number of clicks needed to perform a task, and presents even experienced users with some of the less commonly used tools in a clear manner. The new AutoCAD user interface is both customizable and extensible, so that customers can continue to create an environment that works the way that meets their company and industry standards. Common Objections: Q: I do not like the ribbon. Do I have to use it? A: No, you can select the “classic workspace” and use your standard interface setup. Q: Will I be able to use my existing customizations with AutoCAD 2009? A: Yes, all of the migration tools work as they have in the past for the standard toolbars and menu customizations.

7 ViewCube™ Feature Problem Manipulating 3D models in AutoCAD® software is difficult and subject to error: Process can be difficult for new users to understand. It is easy to lose your orientation when using the Orbit command. Working with conceptual models created from solids and surfaces is a key feature of AutoCAD. But, with the current tools (Orbit , Named View, keyboard shortcuts) it is easy to “misplace” the tools needed to manipulate these models, and it is easy to get lost as you flip and rotate a model on the screen.

8 ViewCube New ViewCube™ feature provides
Solution New ViewCube™ feature provides Graphical tool intuitively indicates model orientation Simple, interactive controls Consistent 3D navigation experience The new ViewCube feature is a simple and interactive way for both new and experienced users to manipulate 3D models. It occupies a fixed place on the screen so that it is obvious that it is available for use. (It stays transparent until clicked to minimize the effect on screen real estate.) Clicking faces, corners, or edges of the cube snaps the whole model to a new orientation. Clicking and holding the cube allows free rotation of the model, with the visual cues of the cube showing the overall orientation of the model. Design Review, 3DS Max, AutoCAD, Revit and Inventor all use the same ViewCube for a consistent 3D navigation experience.

9 Action Recorder Problem Automation of repetitive tasks is complex in AutoCAD® software: Customization requires a high level of expertise Can require use of programming tools such as VBA or LISP Support from CAD manager needed to create, test, and maintain programs or scripts Customers have asked for years for a simple way to record a series of commands in AutoCAD and then play them back. Sophisticated customers and CAD managers have been able to fill some of this need through scripting, or LISP and VBA programming (see the short example on the slide). But these routines take time to create initially and then need a couple of rounds of testing with users to ensure they work properly. And, of course, maintenance is also required as new versions of AutoCAD are adopted and users want their old tools to work properly in the new environment.

10 Action Recorder Solution The new action recorder allows AutoCAD® software users to automate repetitive tasks: Anybody can use it No programming skills required Graphically interactive recording of commands Easily saved and shared The new Action Recorder enables users to quickly and simply record their use of AutoCAD and then play it back. The recording is saved on the user’s machine in an external file and can by played back at any time or shared with other users. The Action Recorder’s visual interface makes it easy for nontechnical users to create a series of commands, add messages, or pause the recording for input. The focus of this tool is simplicity and ease of use. It is meant to allow automation of simple, repetitive tasks in AutoCAD, without any programming skills. It is not meant to replace all scripting, VBA, or LISP routines. It puts more power in the hands of users and takes some pressure off CAD managers.

11 Layer Properties Manager
Problem The current Layer Properties dialog box is not interactive: Cannot see changes as they are made Cannot run other commands when dialog is active Scrolling to review properties hides key information The Layer Properties Manager is a key tool for managing drawing information in AutoCAD software. Companies create extensive standards governing what information is stored on which layer, and as users work in AutoCAD, they are constantly switching layers on and off to work on different portions of their design. Currently, as changes are made in the dialog box, they are not reflected in the drawing until the users click the Apply button. This means that if a mistake is made, it can be difficult to sort out which change caused the problem. To avoid this, users make a change, click Apply, examine the drawing, and then make the next change. This causes a lot of opening and closing of the dialog box.

12 Layer Properties Manager
Solution New Layer Properties Manager Changes are immediately reflected in the drawing Layer manager stays active when running other commands Columns can be frozen when scrolling The new Layer Properties Manager is not only incorporated into the ribbon, it now immediately makes changes to the layer properties in the drawing. This is analogous to the benefit of Microsoft® Word 2007, where changes in the font size or style are immediately reflected in the document. As a result, problems can be spotted quickly, and the need to open and close the Layer Properties Manager dialog box is significantly reduced. In addition, the ability to manipulate columns in the dialog box has been enhanced. This includes the ability to change a column width (layer property names can be unreadable if they are truncated) and to fix a column while scrolling (layer property names can be fixed on the left side while the user scrolls back and forth through the other properties).

13 Operating System Microsoft Windows Vista and 64-Bit Support
AutoCAD® and AutoCAD LT® software are “Certified for Windows Vista®”—highest level of Microsoft® Logo Certification Multi-core support 64-bit support (both AutoCAD and AutoCAD LT): Improved performance and stability for large data sets Platforms Intel® EM64T (not Itanium®), AMD® 64 Windows® XP 64, Windows Vista 64 With the release of AutoCAD 2008, AutoCAD supported Windows Vista, but only to the level of “Works with Vista.” This level of support was determined by the almost simultaneous release of AutoCAD 2008 and Windows Vista. Since then, we have worked with Microsoft to obtain the “Certified for Windows Vista” logo, which is the highest level of Windows certification given by Microsoft. We also introduced support for 64-bit Windows and Intel and AMD chipsets for AutoCAD with the release of AutoCAD With AutoCAD 2009, this 64-bit support has been extended to AutoCAD LT The key customer benefit of 64-bit systems is in the support for larger amounts of RAM, which means larger models can be created.

See the information on OTW if customers are interested in additional information on these great new features.

15 AutoCAD 2009 Autodesk has one goal: increasing your productivity. The new user interface has been optimized to boost your efficiency: Ribbon toolbar ViewCube™ feature Action Recorder Layer Properties Manager Fit and Finish As Amar Hanspal has said, this is the best AutoCAD ever! Each of these features is aimed at solving key problems, and we have heard over and over again, as we went to customer validations around the world, that these features make it easy to justify an upgrade or purchase of the latest version of our customers’ favorite software.

16 Autodesk Impression With Autodesk Impression, you can create compelling presentation-ready graphics directly from your DWG™ and DWF™ files. Autodesk® Impression software is easy to use, saves you time, and lets you add the hand-drawn look to your CAD files. A copy of Autodesk® Impression software will be included with the English, Japanese, and Korean (TBD) releases of AutoCAD® 2009 software.  (Impression will be in English only). Impression will ship as stand-alone media in a cardboard sleeve. The packaging will explain that this is a full license and will contain a small brochure explaining what Impression does.

17 Autodesk Impression Where does Impression fit into the Autodesk mix of products? Designers need to communicate designs in many settings. Sometimes all that is needed is a CAD drawing. This is perfect for a technical setting or documentation. This type of drawing is typically created in AutoCAD. Other times they need a fully rendered 3D image. This is appropriate when they want to show materials, finishes, and the effects of lighting. This type of drawing is typically created in 3ds max. However, there are many times when neither image is appropriate. The CAD drawing doesn’t really engage the imagination. The visualization is highly specific. For many situations it has too much information. Many times you probably need to give an impression of your design without overloading the image with either technical detail or materials and finishes. You need to give an impression that is more stylized or artistic. This is particularly true when the design is still in development and many of the details haven’t been resolved. Right now there is no easy way to create these images. That’s where Autodesk Impression comes in. It is for the creation of drawings with a hand-drawn look.
