This summer, test a handcycle courtesy of the NYC Department of Transportation and Citi Bike!
Handcycles are three-wheeled, hand-controlled, adaptive vehicles for people who don’t know how or are not physically able to ride traditional two-wheeled pedal bicycles. They’re built for easy level transfers from a wheelchair for more independent use — and even allow you to directly hitch a mobility device.
We’ll bring a fleet of handcycles to Weekend Walks, Summer Streets, and other community-based events throughout the city all summer. Be sure to stop by our booth to learn more about this adaptive bike pilot program and score free swag from our Citi Bike ambassadors.
Participation in all of these events is completely free. We invite anyone 18 and older to take a test ride.
The NYU Ability Project will work with us to assess the impact of this initiative by administering a survey to participants who try the handcycles or are interested in sharing their thoughts.
Do you work with or participate in a disability group? Interested in scheduling a test ride in your community?
