“I’m on the road to recovery,” the pop icon wrote, days after being hospitalized with a bacterial infection. She hopes to return to the stage in October.

Madonna has shared her first statement since being hospitalized in late June with a serious bacterial infection, saying she is on the road to recovery.  “My first thought when I woke up in the hospital was my children,” she wrote, after thanking fans for well wishes. “My second thought was that I did not want to disappoint anyone who bought tickets for my tour.” Read the full statement below.

Madonna continued, “I also didn’t want to let down the people who worked tirelessly with me over the past few months to create my show. I hate to disappoint anyone.” She plans to reschedule the North American dates of her Celebration Tour, which had been due to begin on July 15 in Vancouver, until after the European leg, which is set to go ahead as planned in October.  “My focus now is on my health and getting stronger and I assure you, I’ll be back with you as soon as I can,” she continued.

Upon postponing the tour, Madonna’s longtime manager, Guy Oseary, said the star had spent several days in the ICU and would “need to pause all commitments, which includes the tour.” Since announcing the dates in January, Madonna has released songs with Sam Smith (“Vulgar”) and the Weeknd (“Popular”).

Madonna:

Thank you for your positive energy, Prayers and words of healing and encouragement.
I have felt your love.
I’m on the road to recovery and incredibly grateful for all the blessings in my life.

My first thought when I woke up in the hospital was my children.
My second thought was that I did not want to disappoint anyone who bought tickets for my tour.
I also didn’t want to let down the people who worked tirelessly with me over the past few months to create my show. I hate to disappoint anyone.

My focus now is on my health and getting stronger and I assure you, I’ll be back with you as soon as I can.

The current plan is to reschedule the North American leg of the tour and to begin in October in Europe.

I couldn’t be more grateful for your care and support.
