As cinephiles AND skin-ephiles, we just LOVE a good movie nude scene. Obviously the Internet has made it impossibly easy to just see naked folks whenever you want, but there’s something special about a movie star baring it for the big screen.
Did you know the Internet’s boyfriend showed his peen? And America’s sweetheart went topless at 22?
We rounded up a few full frontal film moments in which some of the biggest stars and celeb spouses showed everything they were working with in the service of art. And we salute them!

Twilight
No, not that one. The other one.
Yeah, you probably haven’t ever seen this 1998 neo-noir potboiler starring Paul Newman and Susan Sarandon. If not, you haven’t seen one of very few nude scenes by America’s sweetheart Reese Witherspoon.
The film opens with her character being tracked down while on a Mexican vacay with bae Liev Schreiber (also looking super young and snack-like).
In a post-coital scene, Reese realizes her hotel room has been invaded — before she can even get dressed.
Reese was just 22 years old at the time, but we’re guessing the fact co-star Sarandon — playing her mother — was also willing to go nude gave her the confidence for it?
Whatever the reason, we’re thankful!
Outlaw King
Chris Pine made headlines in 2018 for going full frontal in the historical epic Outlaw King. While the nudity isn’t in your face (too bad!), it’s completely real — no body double — something rare for an actor of his stature. Er, we mean the size of his career…
While the sex scene about a third of the way through the movie is nice, the camera doesn’t go all the way down on Chris. That scene comes nearly two hours into the film when Robert The Bruce emerges from a morning bath in the river.
The penis is far away and not in good view, but it’s there and we are thankful!
Under The Skin
Scarlett Johansson could have pulled a Halle Berry and cashed in a huge payday for her first full frontal scene. Instead, she went the other way. The same week Captain America: The Winter Soldier, her third outing as Black Widow, took the box office by storm, a little sci fi horror film called Under The Skin quietly crawled into indie theaters.
In the film, ScarJo plays an alien posing as a human — who at one point takes a good long look at her strange new body.
The scene is bold, brave, and actually really poignant. A great slow burn movie and a nude scene we will forever be thankful for!
Trance
Actors being told nude scenes are central to the plot is basically an old joke in Hollywood, but in this case it’s absolutely true. We won’t get into why so as not to spoil this little-seen 2013 James McAvoy psychological thriller, but believe it or not, seeing Rosario Dawson completely nude is a huge plot point.
Did we say completely nude? We did indeed…
Yeah, it’s the one of the most nude scenes we’ve ever seen in a major motion picture, especially by a star as big as Rosario.
BTW, this is going to be super awkward if she ends up as our First Lady… though we guess at this point it has precedent!
Love
The Gaspar Noé erotic drama drew gasps in 2015 for its sexual frankness, x-rated poster, and famous 3-D money shot.
The movie focuses on the most carnal aspects of relationships, from the golden days to the ways they get people in trouble and change the direction of lives. And by focuses, we mean shows A LOT. You see EVERYTHING in this movie, and the sex is not simulated — it’s real.
Star Karl Glusman was a complete unknown at the time and has gotten steady work since in movies with Dakota Johnson, Emilia Clarke, and even Tom Hanks — though he still hasn’t gotten to show off with a big part like this since.
However, what makes this all the more inneresting is he married Zoë Kravitz in Summer 2019. Assuming she’s a cinephile, she got to get a sneak preview before the main attraction began — and apparently liked what she saw!
She isn’t alone; it is a hot (and interesting) movie, and we are especially thankful to Karl for showing no fear while showing everything else.
