Sophia Loren, 89, hospitalized after falling in Swiss home

Famed actress Sophia Loren has undergone surgery and remains in the hospital after falling in her home in Switzerland.

A rep for the “Two Women” star confirmed to Page Six Monday morning that the accident took place Sunday in Loren’s bathroom in Geneva, and she sustained multiple fractures, including to her hip and femur.

The rep added that they’re waiting to see how her recovery progresses and that there was on additional information at the time.

On Sunday, the Instagram account for Loren’s restaurant chain also shared the news of her injuries.

“Today, a fall at her home in Geneva caused Mrs. Loren to suffer hip fractures. Having undergone surgery successfully, shill will now have to observe a short period of convalescence followed by a rehabilitation process,” read the announcement, as translated from Italian.

Loren was scheduled to attend the opening of another one of her restaurant’s outposts in Bari, Italy, on Tuesday, but all of her engagements have been canceled in light of her accident, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The “Grumpier Old Men” actress was also set to receive an honorary citizenship from the city.

Sources told THR that Loren’s sons, Carlo and Edoardo Ponti, are by her side at the hospital.

Loren’s last public appearance was at the Armani fashion show in Venice on Sept. 2, held during the 80th Venice Film Festival.
