Isuzu MU-7 manual version may have been discontinued

Most dealers are only offering the automatic version of the Isuzu MU-7 and none of them have current year stock with the manual transmission. It prompts us to believe that Isuzu might have stopped the production of the manual version of the MU-7.

We thought this might be a strategy to push the sales of the automatic MU-7, which was recently launched. However, dealers say that they are not getting any new manual variants from the manufacturer and only a few models from 2015 are sparingly available.

Isuzu had stopped rolling out vehicles from their Hindustan Motors plant in Tiruvallur, Chennai since December 2015. However, this was only to start moving production to their own facility at Sri City, AP. The company wasn’t expected to begin production at this facility before April 2016 as they had confirmed that they have enough stock to meet the demand till then. This new plant has an annual production capacity of 50,000 units, which can be expanded to 1.2 lakh units.

It should also be noted that Isuzu has replaced the MU-7 by the MU-X SUV globally. This is a seven-seater vehicle that came as a replacement to the Alterra, which is the MU-7 sold in the Indian market. So, we are waiting for an official statement from Isuzu if it will start producing the manual variants soon or phase out the car for the MU-X.
