About 100 firefighters battled a three-alarm fire in west Columbus on Wednesday.

Chief Jeff Geitter with the Columbus Division of Fire tells WSYX that the fire has impacted a two-story building structure on the 2400 block of West Broad Street.

The building has businesses on the lower floor and apartments on the top floor.

A woman was rescued by firefighters from one of the apartments and taken to a local hospital in critical condition, Geitter said. Everyone else escaped without injuries.

Those who know the woman said she is in her 70s.

The wind and conditions of the building made putting out the fire difficult.

"It appears that most of the first-floor businesses were vacant. But there is a lot of clutter in there," Geitter said. "The floor between the first and second floor is collapsed in a certain section. So the crews are really having to be safe."

No firefighters were injured, and CFD will have crews present until 8 a.m. to monitor. Investigators will begin looking at the building on Thursday.

The Red Cross is assisting four people displaced by the fire.
