Coming this October

One of New York’s most iconic social watering holes is headed to Palm Beach. La Goulue, which first opened in Manhattan in 1973 — and moved into its latest location at 29 East 61st Street last winter — will unveil a southern outpost at 288 South County Road this October, in the space formerly occupied by Chez L’Epicier.

The 110-seat room, decorated by owner Jean Denoyer, will be a replica of the New York restaurant, down to the Majorelle chandeliers, pewter bar, oak paneling and brown banquettes.

”Since we re-opened in New York, we have had countless conversations with our large regular clientele who have homes in Palm Beach and have been asking us to open there,’’ says managing partner Craig Pogson. “It’s got lot of frontage, it’s close to the Breakers, and has visibility because it’s also near the bridge.’’

The new location will be open from noon to 11 p.m. seven days a week, offering La Goulue’s signature dishes including homemade foie gras terrine, cheese soufflé, and steak tartare. There will also be unique seasonal specials, a larger bar area and additional private party space. Says Pogson: “Palm Beach people love cocktails so we are doubling the bar!’’

This isn’t the restaurant’s first foray in South Florida, it once had a location in Miami’s Bal Harbour Shops, but that location closed in the summer of 2014.
