Princess Diana Memorial Fountain

A very peaceful slice of Hyde Park. A nice commemorative plaque to Diana was near the entrance of the park.

My main issue is...it's not a fountain. It's a circular pattern of water. In my book, a fountain elevates water into the air. Di deserved better.

This beautiful fountain is located in Hyde Park, the massive park in the middle of London. We were on a leisurely walk and stumbled upon this beautiful attraction, which had a plaque about Princess Diana's life. It's peaceful here and a great place to visit if you have some extra time while visiting.

I would highly suggest finding a bike tour that takes you to all the main spots. It's a great way to see the sights, get a workout in and do it with a local that knows the details!

Strolled through this park at night, so I didn't get to see much, but I did get a cool silhouette picture of this bird.

With the circular river of water around the memorial, and how it curves, is very moving. You can sit on the edge of the memorial and relax. Very clean area as well, in the middle of Hyde Park.

I must admit that I didn't have great expectations of the fountain after all the bad publicity it received, and I have always had some difficulty with the slightly hysterical 'cult' that developed around Princess Diana.


So - it's only right that I should say that I rather took to the fountain when I visited it. It helps to go on a warm sunny day, when everything looks at its best. The fountain and the lawn around (and inside it) are beautifully maintained, and they have well and truly ironed out all the teething troubles. So now, it's simply a very nice, rather informal water feature, which visitors are encouraged to sit on, and dip their toes and feet into. And plenty of people (of all ages) were doing just that, and enjoying themselves.


The shape of the channel, made from smooth Cornish granite changes its profile as it goes around, with different patterns on the bed of the 'stream', designed to make the water form different patterns and make soft, gentle noises. It's all very pleasant, understated, and relaxing. The lawns and gardens around set it off beautifully, and from the higher level there's a lovely view of the Serpentine.

This spot in the park is best on warm sunny days (that London has oh so many of), when you can dip your toes or go wading in the ankle height water of the circular waterfall?/fountain?/waterbody?

However the sunnier it is, the larger & louder the crowd.

During cooler days, it's much much quieter and it's a wonderful place to sit down for a bit, listen to the hypnotic sounds of the water and just catch your breath from the hectic pace of life in London.

Not much to see here. Yeah the fountain is pretty and has a cool design. Unless you really enjoy leisurely walks in a pretty park, it's not worth walking miles in the Kensington Garden, searching for this memorial! It's by the W. Carriage Dr, by Long Water creek (Close to the Royal Albert Hall, Kensington Road, if you are looking at a map...)

Beautiful little memorial if you are at the park please go visit. It's relaxing and I noticed when we went was a bit more quiet than the rest of the park. It's small but lovely take a moment and relax here if you have the chance to!

What a beautiful park. I was so moved at the size of this place and the really cool 'fountain'. It took us a long time to get here from our hotel. We walked, took the train, then walked some more on a very hot day this past summer. I'm so glad we went, such a nice memorial that Princess Diana's children envisioned and had built in her honor.
