Mayor GT Bynum and Tulsa's Parks director cut the ribbon on the newly renovated McCullough Park on Thursday.

The park at 21st and Garnett covers about 11 acres and in addition to the baseball diamonds that were already there, it now features walking trails, a splash pad, picnic shelters and a state-of-the-art BMX pump track.

"I think we'll see a lot of future wannabe Olympians out here training for BMX riding and others," said Anna America, director of culture and parks for the city of Tulsa. Hopefully people who are not quite as skilled or ambitious will also enjoy it."

East Tulsa community members helped redesign McCullough Park through public events and surveys.

A steering committee made up of adjacent property owners, bike club representatives, area schools an Tulsa Parks staff led the outreach and design efforts for the project to help reach out to the public.

The renovation was done through a $3.6 million Vision Tulsa project.

“Each Vision Tulsa project improves a facet of Tulsa’s quality of life, making our world-class city a better place to live,” Mayor G.T. Bynum said. “These renovations at McCullough Park provide opportunities for east Tulsa residents to enjoy outdoor fun and exercise at a park close to their homes.”

The theme for the park is international, showcasing a brightly colored painted sports court, utilizing graphics of the world and multiple languages in the splash pad plaza.
