Windows 7 Anytime Upgrade

Upgrading from one version of Windows 7 to another is unexpectedly simple. Many computers purchased already have Windows 7 installed and sometimes users want to upgrade. For whatever the reason you want to upgrade, here are the basic steps.

Microsoft has created a feature aptly named “Windows anytime Upgrade”. You can find this feature in the Control Panel under System and Security.

Here’s how to get to it:

  1. Click on the Start Button in the lower left corner of the desktop and then select “Control Panel”

  1. Select System and Security:

  1. Click “Windows Anytime Upgrade:

  1. From Here you can either select “Go online to choose the edition of Windows 7 that’s best for you”  or “Enter an upgrade key”

If you go online you can purchase the upgrade online from Microsoft immediately. Of course you will be prompted for credit card information and once approved you can initiate the download process.

If you select “Enter an upgrade key” you most likely purchased the Anytime Upgrade from a store. The upgrade key is included in the purchased package. Once you select this option and enter the key the rest is automatic.

This upgrade process is amazing simple. It is fast (usually 10 minutes or less) and the required reboot is automatic.

Good Luck and enjoy the simplicity and performance of Windows 7!
