A POSITIVE VOICE FOR THE RESIDENTS OF THE HYDE PARK ESTATE

Central London Bus Review – extended

TfL have announced that they are extending the closing date of the consultation for proposed changes to bus routes. The consultation will now run until Sunday 7th August.

The proposed changes are as a result of TfL’s proposals to the Government for how it will achieve cost-savings, required as part of the Government’s condition of continued emergency funding.

The full details of all bus route changes are available in this document. Further details of the overall proposals are available on the TfL website which also contains a link to be able to complete the survey.

Specific routes that will be of interest to Hyde Park Estate residents are below. The key change for residents will be the inability to catch a direct bus from Edgware Road to Hammersmith and Knightsbridge (route 23) but Kensington High Street would still be served (route 27). The proposals would introduce a new direct route from Paddington to Earls Court, South Fulham and Clapham Junction (route 27). Other proposed changes will generally mean catching a different bus number to reach the same destination. If you have any comments or think we have missed something, do let us know.

Route 113 (Marble Arch to Edgware). This route is proposed to no longer run between Swiss Cottage and Marble Arch, effectively removing it as a bus that might be used by Hyde Park Estate residents. Residents needing to travel to Edgware from Marble Arch would need to commence their journey on existing route 13 and change to route 113 on Finchley Road.

Route 189 (Marble Arch to Brent Cross). This route is proposed to no longer run between Marble Arch and Belsize Road, effectively removing it as a bus that might be used by Hyde Park Estate residents.

Route 6 (Aldwych to Willesden). This route is proposed to run from Marble Arch to Holborn (via Oxford Street) instead of Marble Arch to Aldwych via Piccadilly (the route from Marble Arch to Willesden would remain unchanged). The effect of this for Hyde Park Estate residents would mean that it would no longer be possible to use the number 6 to travel to Piccadilly and Aldwych. However, it is proposed that route 23 would serve this route instead (see below).

Route 16 (Cricklewood to Victoria). This route is proposed to no longer run at all. A proposed re-routing of number 98 would replace much of the former route 16 route, enabling travel from Victoria to Willesden via Marble Arch.

Route 23 (Hammersmith to Westbourne Park via Marble Arch). It is proposed to route this service to Aldwych instead of Hammersmith at Hyde Park Corner. The effect of this for Hyde Park Estate residents would be to remove direct travel from Marble Arch to Kensington High Street and Hammersmith, but replace the route to Aldwych that number 6 currently serves.

Route 98 (Willesden to Holborn via Marble Arch). It is proposed to route this service to Victoria instead of Holborn at Marble Arch. The effect of this on Hyde Park Estate residents would mean residents needing to use the proposed new number 6 to travel from Edgware Road / Marble Arch to Holborn instead of number 98.

Route 205 (Paddington to Bow Church). This service will no longer run from Paddington. The effect of this on Hyde Park Estate residents would be the need to either catch the existing number 27 (Paddington to Chalk Farm) for that part of the route, and then change if needing to travel beyond Euston (via existing routes 25 and 30).

Route 27 (Chalk Farm to Hammersmith via Paddington and High Street Kensington). From Chalk Farm, this service currently passes through Paddington on its way to Hammersmith. It is proposed that this service still serves the route between Chalk Farm, Paddington and Kensington High Street, but instead of continuing to Hammersmith it instead continues to Clapham Junction. The effect of this on Hyde Park Estate residents is to remove the option to travel to Hammersmith, but to open up a new route to Clapham Junction via Earls Court and South Fulham.

Route 74 (Baker Street to Putney via Marble Arch). It is proposed to withdraw this service. Hyde Park Estate residents who currently use this service to either Baker Street or Putney would need to use another service: the 414 for journeys Putney and the 74 for journeys to Baker Street. The 414 takes a slightly different route to Putney and a change to another service might be required if needing to alight at a stop before Putney.
