Christian Dior SS24 Was a Confident Expression of Modern Femininity

The empowered collection was set inside a feminist video installation by artist Elena Bellatoni.

For Spring/Summer 2024, Maria Grazia Chiuri continued her stylistic exploration of femininity at the helm of Christian Dior. Staged amidst a scenographic video installation by artist Elena Bellatoni, the show offered a powerful feminist expression with striking statements, including “I Don’t Belong To Anyone Else,” “My Body Is Not A Product” and “I Am Not Your Doll,” plastered across the walls of the venue. Even more fortuitous was Chiuri’s contemporary uniform that imminently cascaded down the momentous pink and yellow runway.

Against their saturated backdrop, Dior’s latest wares strictly abided by a neutral color story. The opening looks saw tethered lace textiles formed tastefully transparent dresses, while blazers flaunted the feminine form with cinched waists. Tulle offered a womanly finish on subsequent gowns, while several long black coats, draped over collared white shirts, meant business.

Many tops left one shoulder on display, while skirts fell below the knee. Chiuri etched subtle, illustrative graphics on blazers, topcoats and skirts, all of which found balance with monotone underlayers. Utilitarianism informed nylon vests and jackets with multiple pockets and dual-functioning zippers, while minimalism was central to a number of single-hued dresses and coats.

Grey denim, which received a burn-like treatment, composed a jacket and shirt set, and the textile later reappeared in a pair of knee-length shorts. Intricate lace reemerged in beige, offering a regal finish to formal tops and flowing gowns; and the legion of floor-length skirts that followed found synergy with asymmetrical tops. The final round of looks — opulent sheer dresses that featured detailed ornamentation around the neck — placed femininity under a bright spotlight, reminding onlookers of Chiuri’s forward vision for women’s fashion.
