difficulty running Camedia masters
« on: May 23, 2005, 05:43:51 PM »
Since I installed Avast 4.6 home edition, I'm having difficulty running the software that came with my Olympus camera, CAMEDIA master.  It either hangs or runs very slowly.  Any suggestions?

Does it help if you temporarily stop some of the avast! resident providers?
What operating system do you use?

I'm running Window XP with service pack 2.  I have an always on internet connection. Pardon my ignorance, but I thought I shouldn't stop the resident providers because of that.

You should not stop/disable your firewall.

Avast isnt a firewall.

It's just a test, not a solution ;)

I paused all the providers, and it runs smoothly now.  Thanks.

Yes, it runs smoothly but that's not a permanent solution. They mentioned it just to check and to make sure that your problem is caused with one of avast! providers (possibly)... That was just a test like Vlk said... leaving your computer with avast! providers disabled is not quite clever...

They need more info from you so they can work on that issue... please come back in this thread and provide them with some more info...  ;)

Cheers !

Well, that thing you'll have to ask our Alwil staff. They know exactly what information could they use... maybe exact name and version of the program that came with your Olympus camera, anything that could help them locate the problem... It would be much better if we wait until someone from Alwil Software comes back in this thread...

Take care !

Well, I would like to know if there is a single provider that - when stopped or paused - solves the problem (and of course, what provider is that). "Stopping all providers" is similar to terminating the resident protection completely, so it doesn't give us much hint.

I'll try pausing them with only one at a time and see what effect that has. I'll let you know if any one alone seems to be causing the problem.  Since this isn't an urgent issue, between time zone differences and work schedule, you probably won't hear from me until tomorrow.
