MAD: Juana La Loca or “the best tortilla in Madrid?”

La Latina is the oldest part of Madrid, with small streets in the city center and full of bars, one next to another.Juana la Loca is one of the famous, but much more tidy than its neighbors.

Restaurant has two famous tapas: pintxo’s tortilla with caramelized onions (to some the best tortilla in Madrid) and truffled egg. We asked the two. Tortilla is really very good, creamy inside, onion tasted so good. As a pintxo, it’s unnecessary to have a toast under a tortilla, it’s  just to add carbs. Truffled egg is so tasteful but would be perfect if the egg was cooked at the moment, with a creamy yolk. Tapas were already done, as in most tapas bars, the reason the yolk was hard.

We also asked for the plat du jour, lomo de ternera (meat) with baked potato and salad. An odd request for a tapas bar? Just because it seemed to be the best for our money. Juana la Loca is expensive for a tapas bar: 2 pintxos, the plat du jour (with dessert) and 2 glasses of wine for 35 euros. But pintoxs were very good and others looked promising.
