TL431: Negative reference voltage generation using tl431

Hii

Can we use tl431 for negative reference generation. I need to generate -3V reference using -5V. If possible can i know how to calculate the resistors value.

    Hi Sneha 

    You can use below circuit for your calculation - 

    You can calculate R1 & R2 from gain equation given with fig. 21 in the data sheet - 

    VF1 = 2.5 (1 + R1/R2)

    You can increase values of resistors if there is concern with power dissipation but make sure TL431 is getting Imin as specified in the datasheet.
