Hans Sebald Beham (1500-1550) - Saint Jerome with the angel / Description: We behold Saint Jerome seated in profile on a large stone block. In adoration, he grasps the hands of an angel who appears to him. Signed with monogram and dated 1521 on tablet at top centre. Sebald Beham was a German painter and famous printmaker, one of the so-called German small masters known for their engravings of a very small scale. Born in Nuremberg, he spent the later part of his career in Frankfurt.
